my cars temperature sensor is showing 160 degrees. im wondering if the sensor is anywhere near the engine and could have fallen or whatever... does anyone know where the external temp sensor is?

First of all, are you getting plenty of hot air from your heater? If so the sensor and or gage has failed.

If you get luke warm heat inside the car put your hand on the top radiator hose it should feel cooler than usual.

In that case have your thermostat changed. it sounds as if it's stuck in tho open position all the time.
