I own a Manufactured Home on permanent foundation. I have approximately 18" or less crawl space under my home. It's pretty critter-free but I am more concerned about just the room/space available to maneuver and crawling around on the dirt when I need to do various maintenance under the home. Does anyone have a tip they use for themselves? I don't have the extra $ to hire for maintenance otherwise that would be my first choice.

rolling thick poly vapor barrier is a wonderful idea, but could be fairly difficult to install AFTER the fact. pieceing together chunks of plywood or OSB is the best way i've found. i also wear knee pads. i bring a long drop-sheet, and poly for different instances. a tarp has also been used in the past...

i do a fair amount of work under trailers and modular homes, and unfortunately, there isn't an easy fix to this. whatever you use, make sure it's THIN, STRONG, and more comfortable than the rocks/dirt below!

this may sound nuts but it works and it is a cheap solution. get yourself some refrigerator boxes and put them down in the areas where you need to go the most. Then where a nylon jacket when you go under your house. You will be able to pull yourself around with your hands by grabbing the floor joists, and sliding on your back. the guys at work call it "the poor man's creeper"

you might check into a creeper, the thing mechanics use in their shops to roll under cars. ( If the ground is hard packed enough to roll around on.)
You shouldn't have to go under there often enough to worry about it. I think my husband has been under ours maybe 2 or 3 times in the last 10 years.

slide some osb lengthways down the middle, that should keep the dirt out of your shorts, then tote a 2x2 piece of rug with you when you re under there if you need to stray off your path.

Roll out some thick mil plastic under your home. This will also help as a vapor barrier.
