I was dancing in movement class and I stepped on it strange. I think I heard some cracks. I made an appt. at the doctors for next tuesday. Thats a week away. I walked on it all day yesterday and now I cry when I even stand on it. Do i go to the ER and get an X-ray or wait until next Tuesday. Is there anything else I can do besdies ice it and elevate it? Should i get an ACE bandage or something like that? Should I take advil or pain releavers I haven't yet.

...So I went to the hospital, they told me I had to have a referral from a physican to get X-rayed so I went to Urgent care and they couldn't see me today, so I got a thing to keep my ankle in place and bought crutches, should I use the crutches? Or is it not necessary? I just want my foot to heal fast so I dont wanna be on it anymore.

i broke my foot in july. i stepped down a step, but missed seeing the step.........
first thing i did was go to my regular doctor. they took me immediately (hadn't been in over 5 years)
they had xray machine..........and referred me to orthopedic surgeon.........and got an appt that afternoon.
i then was told to get a cam walker. and they used an ace bandage. i took no pain killers.......
keeping off the foot is what will heal it faster.
i was using cam walker for two months.

go to the doctor. please. you don't want it to heal up wrong. by now you are in so much pain and don't know the problem, but you really need the xrays.

Get an X-ray (NOT at a doctor's office)--and make sure it's read by a board certified RADIOLOGIST. It's the only definitive way to tell. All too often people get x-rays in a doctor's office, and that non-radiologist internist or family doctor then says it's "normal." Then it gets worse and the person goes to the hospital to get X-rays that are read by a board certified radiologist, and the real diagnosis is made.

Non-radiologists miss things, and they order too many tests because if the X-ray machine is in their office, they get more money if you get an X-ray there (or MRI, or Ultrasound, or CT). It's a financial incentive for excessive testing that doctor's call "self-referral". It's currently legal in outpatient offices and clinics, and some doctors take full advantage of it.

There are clinical clues, like the "Ottowa ankle rules," but those are guidelines. If you can't bear weight on it, that's a bad sign. An X-ray is the definitive test. There's actually a fracture called a "dancer's fracture," interestingly enough.

I hope it all works out for you....

Of course. It could have just been your ankle popping but, if it hurts that bad when you stand on it, get it x-rayed immediately. But don't go to the hospital if you can, my mom works there and you'll be there all night if emergency cases keep coming before you. Try going to an office near by that only does bone breaks, and set up an emergency appointment. When I broke my arm in Kindergarden, I went to some office for breaks only and I was in and out of there in about 2 hours. Get it looked at, it might heal improperly.

Go get an xray.
Better safe than sorry.

If it hurts that much when you are weight bearing it might be a break

My friend fell at work and just went on working.

What happened? You ask.

He had to have surgery because he displaced the broken bones

He is really sorry it wasn't taken care of right away!

Now he has pins and screws holding the bones in place.

Pain relievers make swelling go down. Some doctors believe that swelling is how a bone knows to heal, so pian relievers can be hazardous to healing. Ask a doc when you go to the emergency room. That's what ERs are for.

X-ray is the only way to tell for sure. Don't wait a week, go on into the ER. Waiting complacates the injury. Take some Aleve on the way.

If your foot is swollen and purple, then you definitely have broken the foot or a bone in the foot [of course, that happened to me when I broke a toe when I was in second grade, though it my have been part of my foot too].

You definitely need to visit a hospital and get an X-Ray on your foot.

I would get to the ER. It sounds like you need medical attention asap. The longer you wait, the bones will start healing on their own abnormally, then they will have to re-brake your bone to set it correctly. They will give you something for pain. I wish you the best.

Go to the Er immediately and NEVER go to that doctor again because he/she obviously does not care about patients. They would have seen you as an emergency appointment if they cared.
