This question is incredibly unclear. You are in an area where I have some expertise and I can't imagine what he is going for. The only think I can think of if sugar acids or sugar alcohols which are not carbohydrates but are related to them. Did he give you any hints? What topics are you now studying maybe that would give a clue. I feel sorry for you. This is probably your professors fault.

The only thing I can think is that carbohydrates, like glucose, fructose, and galactose, are taken in by the body and metabolized to acetic acid. Acetic acid can build up into fatty acids, which can esterify with glycerol to produce fat. Carbohydrates can also metabolize into components of the citric acid cycle, which give rise to amino acids: Aspartic acid, glycine, alanine, glutamic acid, glutamine, asparagine. Also I suppose that carbohydrates can turn into hydroxymethylmalonic acid, which is the opening step toward cholesterol.
