They're not as funny or as innocent as they used to be.

With the exception of The Family Guy, not quite as funny. There remains a certain charm of seeing Wile E. Coyote falling off a cliff and raising a circular cloud of dust when he hits the ground. Or Tom running into something while chasing Jerry and turning into a foot stool. Modern cartoons just don't have that.

Today's cartoons are, for the most part, crap. You remember how clever the Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner cartoons were? You won't find any of that now. It's either violent anime (which is not good for little kids) or simpering schlock (think Nickelodeon toons). Remember when they did away with Mighty Mouse cartoons because of the violence? Man, they're tame compared to now.

I think they are more clever and generally have more of an intelligent humor than relying on slapstick comedy. Family Guy, South Park, Venture Bros., and Drawn Together are absolutely hilarious for an adult. Even the kid oriented cartoons are noticeably more humorous. It's funny watching Fred and Daphnie get called on always exploring together in the new Scooby Doo cartoons.

If I'd watched the Happy Tree Friends when I was watching the Hannah Barbera mexican crows I would've been in childhood therapy! I love the stuff that parents can fall off the couch laughing at, but you do get the whole violence conditioning thing once you're a boring adult. If my age group had seen anime as kids Bill Gates'd have moonbases by now...
Cheers!

I like some but then, you have Family Guy and South Park and I am blown away. My teen and pre teen boys love Family Guy and I saw it the other day and I was astounded at the lack of morals. I really don't approve of that.
Now if you mean cartoons like Sponge Bob, I like it but is still much different thatn the days of when cartoons were Smurfs and Roadrunners! The simple days!

Todays cartoons are trash compared to the "long time ago" days.

With todays cartoons, the jokes seem to aim towards older people for some bizzare reason.

They are a little more mature. I think King of the Hill is way better than any cartoon I watched as a little boy though.

I don't really like the cartoons of today. They're lame. Like, toons unlimited? WTF! Bugs and Daffy was so much funnier, and so were tiny toons, but the toons of the future? Even the new teenage mutant ninja turtles suck! But not all the cartoons are bad. I do like the proud family. I don't really watch many cartoons anymore. Now there are more kids shows on that I like.

I am NOT a fan of the ones out there today... they teach by poor example, and they show that being a smart azz is "funny". I am quick to demonstrate where the line is when it comes to respecting others in authority.

Tom & Jerry need to make a comeback.
