The idea that one person or thing is flatly superior to another is a contradiction that results largely from language. Allow me to explain:
When we talk about something being superior (or inferior, or equal), we mean that it is better for a specific purpose, measurement, or goal. This target for superiority is implied when you use the word 'superior', but because of the way language is constructed you don't have to supply it. In fact, being superior in one way necessitates being inferior in another: the winner of a tallness contest is also the loser of a shortness contest.
Because there are so many conceivable purposes, measurements, and goals, it is pretty much inconceivable that any two individuals, no matter how much alike, are identical for all of them. Nobody, then, is completely equal to anyone else in every way. Or superior. Or inferior. Only in the grossest of generalizations do we come even close to this.
