Because it isnt, the only Province I know if in Canada where it is free is Saskatchewan. We pay for our medical coverage, and it doesnt cover dental or optical. JUST medical.

Its $54 for one person and $98 for a couple. I dont know if seniors get free medicare in the USA or how that works.

I do know a lot of people think Canadians get free medical coverage. We dont, excluding Saskatchewan, and we have to pay user fees for services such as physio therapy, etc, and these are between $25 and $45 a visit. So most people cant afford to use any of these services.

So I've heard. My garbage man (who lives over the border in Quebec) told me that the medical plan over there was terrible. He said people were dying over there waiting for procedures. How true this is I don't know, but I do know a lot of Canadians come over here to go to our doctors.

I am moving to Saskatchewan. If you pay $54 a person or $98 a couple and have $25 and $45 co pays per office visit that is actually not bad.

My husband's medical care is covered by his retirement. Mine is under the same plan, that's why it's "only" $4000 a year. Our medical and dental expenses this year so far are over $6000. That is low, in the US.

Because we're insured, all the insurance company's bills are smaller than if we were uninsured -- the company cuts a deal with the hospitals so that a huge insurance company pays less than a poor person does for the same procedure.

I'd far rather be paying that $6000 (going up next year) in taxes, and not think of illness in terms of money any more.

When Clinton first became President and he and Hillary started their fight for Universal "European style" healthcare, it sounded good to the genral public I'm sure.
I was stationed in Germany at an Army hospital and had 20 German nationals working for me. I asked them.
Yes the prices were low. Hospiatl room 5DM (about $2.50) a day. But you bring your own sheets, your own pillow and blankets. In other words you pay $2.50 a day for a bed. No private or semi-private rooms. 6 beds per room. Food sufficient to live, if you want more you family brings it in.

All things considered it sucks considering that the Medical care along with "pension" ( the equivalent of Social Security) plus all the other taxes takes up 47% of a workers pay. WHETHER YOU ARE SICK OR NOT!

Are you willing to pay 47% to a medical program you have no control over?

I didn't think so.

I'm in the USA and I pay for Part B Medicare [out patient care] - almost $80+ mo. I do not pay for Part A - hospital care. I have to pay $44+ for Part D - prescription benefit...AND there is an initial deductible for Part B and a 'gap' period for the Part D. If I were not working my monthly Soc. Sec. check would be zapped by the extra charges.

Eyes and dental are not covered also.

There's NOTHING in this world that's free -- taxes are pretty dang steep for all the "free" stuff you get.
