There will be a problem with the cable that usually runs off the gearbox.
On most vehicles this is a simple and relatively cheap repair.
Depending on the age of the vehicle and/or any warranty, any local independent mechanic should be able to fix it.
Note it is illegal not to have a working speedometer so if stopped for speeding and/or any other reason you will be given an order to fix it.

there is a speedo cable that run from the back of the guage down into the gearbox. The cable has either come loose from the gearbox connection or sometimes, the small plastic gears in the guage become stripped and just spin without making the guage work. Either way, its a pain in the bum to fix. I would start by pulling the guage panel out as this is the likely cause.
hope that helped

You probably have a cable from the tranny to instrument cluster. Most likely it`s the cable, which is easy to replace. On rare ocasion the plastic gear in the trans is no good; or the actual speedo gear. Which is a lot more $.

if its an old one, then check the speedo cable. it may have broken.
If its a new shape one then the speed pick up sensor maybe faulty and needs replacing. Ford may have to set it back up? I've not done one so i don't know how big a job it is?

not to be a wiseacre, but because it's a Ford? They don't make them to last any more, you know... Or maybe the vehicle stopped moving?

... If it's computerized, there could be some kind of bug. If it's all old-fashioned indicators, I have no idea.
