Concentrate on the maths (Pure and Applied). Then on the physics and chemistry.
He needs to do ALL the various components of maths, Artihmetic Algebra Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, Logarithms, Matrices & Mechanics. The astronomy part should come under Physics, but he needs to learn about the other components of physics, which are Dynamics, Light, Sound, Waves, Heat, Electricity, Nuclear Physics.
Depending on his age (2nd/3rd) grade, there is a lot to get through for a career in Astrophysics.

2nd/3rd grade? The course he should take is second star to the right and straight on till morning. You're only a child for such a brief time and you're a dull and boring adult all the rest of your life. Let him live in his imagination now and become a delightful astrophysicist when he's a bit older!

Why are you worrying about this now if he is only in 2nd/3rd grade? He has so much time before he gets to high school. There's a good chance he'll change his mind before then.
