Black is the absence of color.
That is why the "colored only" signs from the old south never made any sense. Everyone is a color, unless they are transparent.

yes it is a color. if you put white on a dark background that part of the background changes color, so of course it's a color

Well technically its not however if you're at a home improvement center and you're in the paint department and they ask you, what color do you want your paint? And you answer well...its not a color. Their maybe a problem.
