The reason China gave is that they are afraid the Bible would incite violence...but not the Koran? Sounds more like Christian bashing to me.

I think some of you are missing a point here. Many athletes are very religious. It is part of how they get into the right frame of mind to compete. Denying them access to their religious text potentially impedes their ability to go out 100%.
BTW, I'm not a Christian, but I respect everyone's right to pursue their religious expression. I'd feel the same way if the Chinese were banning the Koran and not the Bible.

I am Muslim, but we respect and believe in Bible as one of our Holy Books too. So, this is not the matter of christianity itself, it is a subject of religious freedom. Whether its Quran or Bible, its not a threat its s sign of peace, compassion and unity, which is a core of every religion. Its politics that manipulates religion.

We should ban them from the Olympics! Or refuse to hold an event that restricts our basic human rights to have a religion.
If they ban the Bible, many countries will not be able to attend as their beliefs are strong and many will refuse as Christianity is still one of the worlds largest religions.
All this Muslim and Koran rubbish should be stopped before it gets out of hands and we have Christian extremists making threats and violent attacks as well as the Taliban! We don't need another terrorist threat but this is the way it might start! Britain is a basically Christian country with Christian rules (most laws started in the Bible!) and values so upsetting our culture by letting the Koran have a part and not the Bible is absurd.
Why are we always stepping down for these people. This is our country and we should keep our own values, I'm not saying we shouldn't allow people to have other religions because we don't want a dictatorship do we! But, I'm saying that people are complaining that there aren't enough Mosques and too many churches... well, duh! I'm sure there were enough if their originating countries so go back or don't complain.
This is a joke of a scenario and should never have even been considered. Bring the Bible in as a sole book, have them both together, or none at all. The Koran should never be allowed on it's own, it's contradictory to most peoples' beliefs and should never have been suggested in the first place.
The Olympics is a united effort by all countries involved to come together to compete in different sports. There shouldn't be any division as this defeats the object of getting countries to come together peacefully at an amicable event where any person of any background can compete for their country (rovided they're good enough in the beginning of course!)

I agree that both religious groups can incite unrest in China, but don't see their line of reasoning here... unless they wish to promote better relations with the oil producing nations where Islam is the major religion. Obviously China wishes to replace Western Nations as the main sphere of influence in the Mid East.
I'm an atheist without a dog in this fight, but I do agree they are being unfair... not something unexpected by China. The US could & probably should embargo goods produced in China, but corporate interests would veto that.

The Chinese are lovely unusual in this problem. For illustration in Beijing they're rounding up the entire homeless animals and killing them. They might now not have fun this Chinese New Year publicly due to the fact it's the 12 months of the Pig and they didn't desire to offend Muslims. They nonetheless crack down on non-legal devout endeavor in Beijing in distinctive. I have no idea in case your tale is right, however my intestine intuition is to reject it on the grounds that the Chinese do not desire some thing to have an impact on their possibilities of constructing a well influence to the leisure of the sector.

And another problem because of religion.Christian activists are already talking boycotting the Olympics. That will bring the Chinese to their knees. If there are any Christians with Olympic tickets that they want to sell I hope you sell them.

Like true Americans we are always getting disrespected. You know what? By the time the Chinese are done listening to the glorious "Star Spangeled Banner" 150 times (after we win a gold medal). They will want us to "please leave country"!
Americans are always underestimated, so you know what? We quietly and respectfully show everyone how the job gets done right. Then leave quietly. With all our gold.
You fundamentalists need to start thinking on your own and get your heads out of the Bible.
I have watched lots of olympic games and guess what? Not once was the "Lords Prayer" envoked publicly.
You fundamentalists are costing this country lots of young men and women. We are becoming less a nation of do'ers but whiners! What happened to our dignitiy!!!!

This would be unfair, as many Chinese human rights violations are.
It is not the first time they have tried to crush Christianity in China.

Christian countries should boycott importing their products. (cheap but always crappy quality anyway) They'll be begging for forgiveness once their export income drops and feel the pinch.

Why should we do anything? They are obviously trying to get a 'rise' out of westerners and you are playing right into their hands. Just ignore it.

I was not aware that there are 'Christian' gov'ts but the US should boycott the games on principle alone.
