3. cilia in airways sweep the trapped particles up and out
4. just the fact that the air comes in the nose and has to go over a bend to get to the lungs, not a straight shot, so the dust is more likely to be trapped

you should really use google. Mucus. Its lines the walls of the lungs and gets rid of dust, dirt and pathogens that get in and its either got rid of by coughing it up or swallowed down to your gut where you stomach and its acid with get rid of it, killing it off.
