I just installed a programmable thermostat and was wondering what temperature it should be set at to be most efficient. Below are my questions:

- What temperature in the morning (7:00-8:30) should it be set too?

- What temperature in the day (8:30-14:00) when no one is home?

- What temperature in the evening (14:00-22:30) when we are
mostly home?

- What temperature during the night (22:30-7:00) when we are sleeping in our warm beds?

I also heard that it is more efficient to leave it on all the time because the energy used to heat a house 10' more, uses more energy than keeping a house at a constant temperature, is this true?

your last paragraph about being more efficient leaving it the same is not true, at least in my case. During the day when no one is home, the thermostat is set at 60 degrees. Then when we get home, we turn it up to 70-74 degrees. Seems to take just a few minutes to heat up. My electric bill went down dramatically after doing this.

Depending on your age and vitality your temperature should be kept as low as you can comfortably withstand. Remember there are things called sweaters and robes when you are sitting around relaxing. At bedtime our thermostat is set for 50. Upon awakening the thermostat is raised to about 68 which rises to 70 in the kitchen fron the sun, making coffee and the like.Seldom is it set above 70 at night. With excellent insulation our heating bills for oil are fairly reasonable.
