my daughter will be 5 months old on 11-16-07. she has been on baby cereal and baby food since she was exactly 4 months old, her doctor told me to start her on it. I have followed his dicections exactly as far as giving veggies first then fruits and the amounts to give. right now she is eating 1 jar per day around 6pm when we get home. I feel like I should send her something for breakfast too, I don't want her to be hungry for solid food all day long but I don't want to overfeed her so that she gets sick either. My grandma watches her during the day while the hubby and I work and she said just let her know when she needs to start feeding her, she thinks she is ready for it now. When did you start giving baby food 2 and 3 times a day? Does my daughter sound ready?

when my son was five months old he at two jars of food for lunch, and some times a jar of fruits for snack mid-day.

Doctors dont know everything. If she throws it up, hold off until later. If not, let her eat. Babies dont over eat unless you feed them just because theyre crying.

My son was 5 months when we started giving him more food. He started daycare and that is why we started. He wakes up and gets a bottle, then when he gets to daycare they feed him cereal and a fruit for breakfast, at lunch he gets cereal and a veggie, and for supper he gets whatever new food were working on...and he just now kept opening his mouth for more when the jar was gone so he now gets a little more. And he also obviously gets bottles through out the day because this is where they get most of their nutrition for the first year. He is a big boy and a big eater. I would gradually work your way up. My son is 7 months now and we just started the level 2 foods. Good luck and I hope I helped a little!!

The best way to tell if formula or breast milk is enough (i don't know which you use) is if your baby seems to want bottles more often, she's probably ready for more food. Regardless of whether it's necessary to feed baby foods, it keeps them satisfied longer. My son was about 5 months when he started eating more. My daughter was 4 months.

I gave my son rice or mixed cereal with applesauce or any other fruit mixed in for breakfast. I did the same with my daughter when she was younger. The fruit cuts down the iron taste of the cereal. I haven't seen a baby that doesn't like cereal mixed this way.

My daughter started solids early due to reflux on pediatrician's orders, but at first she only ate about a tub (2.5oz) a day. It's only been in the last month (since she was 6 months old) that she's been eating more. She eats two 3.5oz tubs twice a day now.

Baby food at this age is just to get baby used to new textures, tastes, and experiences. It's not meant to be a huge part of baby's diet, so your daughter is fine if she's only eating 1 jar a day, especially since she is still under 6 months.

You most definitely can feed her more. Babies let you know when they are full. They push food out of thier mouths with their tongues when they don't want anymore. Think of it this way, the more teeth, the more food. And sweetie, relax, you are doing a good job.
