My husband makes a delicious cranberry relish with cranberries, pears and honey! This is from a now defunct food magazine. I found a recipe very similar to the one he prepares. I am including a link.
He is trying a new recipe this year he found in this month's Bon Appetit. It is delicious as well. It is called cranberry relish with apple cider.
He also made a delicious "quick bread," 'Cranberry-Cornmeal Quick Bread' also from Nov. 2007 Bon Appetit.
I am providing links to all the recipes. There are some great ones in this month's Bon Appetit. You can get there by going to www.bonappetit.com.

Fresh yummy cranberry sauce: Throw in fresh cranberries with water (enough water to cover the berries) and sugar (you decide the quantity- I put very little as I like the tartness and cranberry flavor) and boil till the cranberries pop..It blows the canned stuff way away!..and its beautiful on the T-day table:-)

Green bean casserole
Prepare the bean, pepper, 1/2 the french fried onions and mushrooms soup(use the juice from the green beans instead of water) the night before.
Turkey
mix butter and garlic, parsley, basil and poultry seasoning together. Freeze into ice tray and then place under the skin and inside turkey cavity to prevent drying.

Chicken n' Dumplings
Boil the chicken
Pull the meat off the bone (place back in the pot with the water). Make sure you scrape the stuff off the top of the water.
Add chicken flavor cubes and chicken broth.
Pinch up ready-made biscuit dough.
Put pieces in with boiling chicken meat.
Season to taste.
Wait till done
This is my favorite part of thanksgiving.

spread on cleaned dry celery
"Butternut" squash cut in half clean out bake on cookiesheet 325 degree oven until tender, approx 1hr, scoup out squash into heavy bottomed sausepan, cook on stovetop with half cup brown sugar, half cup white sugar, half cup butter until all is melted through, you can put in food processor of you want it creamier. A couple of my Moms, from many years ago.
Happy Thanksgiving ( squash can be done the day before and put in fridge then just heat in microwave or on stove top)

mu sil makes corn casserole. i hate it but everyone seems to like it. the one thing i can't do w/o on thanksgiving is the stuffing. we add congac to it before its cooked. yummy. if you like s. potatoes, try making twice baked ones and serve them with a praline sauce for something a bit different. not enough space to explain the directions here but if you go to foodnetwork, you'll find everything you need.
