Nope, it's not the Dallas Cowboys.

The first NFL team to feature a cheerleading squad was the Pittsburgh Steelers - the cheerleaders were called the Steelerettes.

Tryouts for the first Steeleretttes team began in the spring of 1961. The applicants were graded on appearance, personality, coordination, gymnastic ability, and a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Contestants who got past the first round of evaluation were required to take a test of general football knowledge, as well.

There's a website that honors the first Steelerettes squads, with lots of details of their formation and earliest members. I've linked to it below.

Hope this helps!

I didn't know it was Dallas, but if the first two answers are indeed correct, how could anyone fail to acknowledge the greatness of the Dallas Cowboys. As if all of the other factors weren't enough, this would surely seal the deal for those people on the fence. I'm surprised that other teams have any fans at all, especially those nasty eagles.

Homer Cowboys fans. Get your facts straight before throwing out wild guesses.

The Steelers is the correct answer, just like the person above me wrote.
