Relief is the difference between the highest point and the lowest point in elevations on a map. So if you are mapping a mountain, and the peak is 9,000 feet, and the base of the mountain is at 2,000 feet, the relief would be 9,000 - 2,000 = 7,000 feet.

Relief is sort of what the land looks like. For example you can have flat land, rolling land and hily land. It can effect where farms are located etc
