Depends on the circumstances. Many people believe there are only two parties in the U.S., or argue that voting for a minority party is akin to throwing your vote away. I don't agree. If there's a real difference that matters to you between the two major parties' candidates, then you may feel it's necessary to vote against the worst one by voting for the not-quite-so-awful one. But if they're both so bad you really can't bear the thought of helping either one, a vote for the minority party (or independent candidate) will make the point about who you think SHOULD win, even if you don't think they have much chance.
Remember that Abraham Lincoln was elected by a "minority" party who was all of a sudden not minor anymore. That was the Republicans.

Well, the only other option is to not vote at all. Getting the lesser of two evils in, is still voting for the best candidate among the choices you have, even if it isn't your ideal candidate, or even close to what you want.

I suppose it is at least judgemental, but not voting makes it easier for the *greater* of two evils to win. Lesser indicates a direction. Lesser tells those who will actually count the votes who is closer to what we prefer.

No. It would be wrong to vote for the greater of two evils.

wrong to who?... it's all subjective... what is right to one person can be wrong to another... but I always choose the lesser of two evils and things usually turn out pretty damn good :-)
