Alright, well, I'm sure some song lyrics don't rhyme, but how does it work? I'm into Collective Soul, Ryan Adams, and Toad the Wet Sprocket, and some of there songs don't seem to rhyme, but they have beautiful lyrics. I want to learn how to write good lyrics, so I need to know how that works. What makes it fit?

Lyrics dont have to rhyme. Lyrics tell a story or an experience. Try writing some of your own and put them up on here and maybe some pro's can help.

I think its great that u want to write music.. Good Luck

Near Rhyme and Meter are what make those songs sound so amazing. The near rhyme are words that ALMOST rhyme, but don't. They sound as if they could rhyme. Meter is the actual rhythm of the words. The stressed versus unstressed syllables of words can make lyrics flow very niceeeeeee.

Sometimes they use something similar to a rhyme called an assimilation. Basically an assimilation is taking two words that don't rhyme but making them sound like they rhyme by using rhythm and speech.

Eg: Well I'll just sit here like a wounded soul
Who's finding it difficult to just let go (Soul and Go)

While the scenes shuffle 'round
Let your world anchor down (round and down)

There's no actual rule that songs have to rhyme and to be honest, I would much prefer hearing songs that don't rhyme at all but are well written than those that do rhyme but they're forced and sound silly. One song that doesn't rhyme is "How To I Live" by LeAnn Rimes.
