diane is right there is no law covering this but also state to state may have provisions in this matter. Still. I would call your state dept. of labor to check federally the vaction time is considered a perk and not legally covered. now as far as union jobs that may be different due to a contract agreement ratifayed already. wish you luck!

Are you in the US? Most places there isn't a law that you receive paid vacation, it's a benefit and is at the option of the employer. Most places do, however, give some paid vacation to full-time workers. You said the payroll company's person said you have a week paid vacation - did your boss ever tell you that? Or do you have an employee handbook that says you get paid vacation? And how long have you been there? even most places that give paid vacation don't give it until you've been there for a year.

It depends on company policy so the payroll processor could be wrong. Were you promised a week vacation accrued over the year or a week at the end of the year. If you get a week paid after the year is over you may not have it yet but if it accrues you would have at least a day after a few months. If you have an employee handbook it will be spelled out. If you weren't promised vacation there isn't a law to give you any.

There is no law that covers paid vacation time. That is negoiated between the employer and employee unless there is a union contract in force. Sounds like you work for Scrouge and need to be looking for a new job. What he is saving in a few days off he will be losing in a good employee who quits or who finds other ways to get even.

if you accrue vacation time that is yours which you are legally entitled to. It varies from state to state (in RI you must be employed with a company for a year to get any accrued time paid out to you) but if it has been accrued you are entitled to it and should consult an attorney.

Vacation pay is not required by law -- it's a gift some employers provide to their employees.
