No it isn't a phenomenon in the Republican party, I don't think you need to fear that. No real Republican would vote for such a liberal Democrat. Now what you might have is some Republicans voting for Obama in states that have open primaries trying to keep Hillary from being nominated but I don't think many republicans would vote for Obama in the general election.

These are Republicans that disagree with the Iraq war and have decided to vote democrat in the upcoming election. Many people dont really know where Obama stands on issues bc he is a relatively new on the political scene. Hillary is much more established and thats why Republicans hate her and she is there worst nightmare. It benefits Obama now bc he will seem as the best chance to republicans who do not like the ultra-liberal hillary. They dont think Obama can win, and thats why he is not being attacked by Republicans only hillary. Trust me, no moderate or conservative republican are going to vote for the liberal Hillary or Obama.

I think it's the media once again playing up Obama. I don't see Obama pulling in enough Republicans to overcome any surge in the Ol' Southern White Democrat who wouldn't vote for either Obama or Hillary if their lives depended on it. Neither John Kerry nor Al Gore could carry the South, and I certainly don't believe Obama or Hillary can either. The going belief is, if you don't carry the South, you won't win.

It shows how terrible the Republican party has become to many Republicans. A bad war. A bad deficit. Bad economy. Dishonest administration. Anti-science. Anti-freedom. Flat-out stupid in foreign affairs. Hateful and partisan. I am a lifelong free-market Republican but after the past 8 years I might never vote nationally for a Republican again. Give me your thumbs down, I don't care, but the unthinking end of the political spectrum had its day; you blew it and left disasters for somebody else to clean up if we are not destroyed first. This country is in terrible shape due to poor management, and those who believe in business, freedom and good management cannot possibly vote anywhere close to the current administration -- That's why you see educated businesspeople fleeing the Republican party.
"Conservative" used to mean fiscally. Now it has come to mean a religious agenda.

Your question and humility alone make you more politically savvy than a majority of those who vote.
This just goes to show that the majority of Americans don't really look at issues when they vote, they vote depending on personality. Obama has charisma, the likes of which we haven't seen since MR. Clinton ran.
I have a strong feeling that the pundits in this article are correct that if Obama wins the nomination, and don't count him out yet, he will have a strong chance of winning the country the way Clinton did.

Its just a propaganda piece. The press is and will do everything in its power to try and reduce the turn out for republicans in the next election. From this to christian won't vote for Rudy , etc. etc.

Personally I think it is more of a backlash against Hillary.
Though it is possible Obama has been able to present a moderate face that many would find appealing.
