Take a bit of baby cereal sometime and you'll see why babies don't like it. Rice cereal tastes like wet paper (oatmeal has a bit more taste, but not much).
You don't have to start with cereal as a first food. It is just usually the first recommendation because rice cereal is very low on the allergen scale. It also dates back to when formula companies couldn't figure out how to get iron in formula properly, so babies had to eat iron-fortified cereal to get enough iron when they weren't breastfed.
Alternately, try pears, bananas, applesauce, squash, carrots or sweet potatoes, all of which are good first foods and unlikely to cause allergic reactions. If your baby likes those, you can mix them with the cereal if you want him to have the extra iron from the cereal.
Just remember to go 4-5 days to a week between new foods and that it may take up to 10 tries of offering a new food before baby likes it.

it takes a lot of patience and slowly slowly does it is the answere. dont expect baby to just start eating it and off he goes.
make up the babymilk/ babyrice or cereal before you are ready to feed
to start with give him some bottle so that he not starving hungry then take the bottle out and give him 1 teaspoonful of the rice /botlle mixture give it 1 quarter of a teaspoon at a time until all the teaspoon is gone .as he dribbles it out you keep scooping it up with the teaspoon under his Lip and popping it back in his mouth.
dont make a big issue of it , it should be a relaxing eat.
afterwards let him have the rest of his bottle
dont try and increase the amount that he has too quickly

I would wait until your baby is really ready. The recommended age is between 4-6 months, so he might not be ready right now. If he's satisfied with just his bottles or nursing sessions, then he doesn't necessarily need solids right now. I wouldn't force it just yet. Keep taking it slowly and let him go at his own pace. It will be messy the first few times, but he really shouldn't act like he's going to vomit. I would wait a few days and then try again.

Try mixing the cereal with some baby fruit of some kind. Some babies gag on things they dont like the taste or texture of.
If that doesnt work, try some regular first stage baby food, start orange. And fruit. If that doesnt work, he's just not ready for solids yet.

That means he's not ready for solids. Don't force him or trick him into it (like adding cereal to the bottle). He doesn't even need solids for a start! He'll eat when he's ready.

It takes awhile for them to get the hang of it. Make it really thin, my son gagged if it wasn't. I did about 1 tsp cereal to 4 tsp formula/breast milk. Just keep trying, he will take it when he is ready. I always just try to make funny faces and talk to my son to get him to laugh, then pop it in his mouth! We just did green beans, so you can imagine his face for that! But, after awhile, he ate it. Just keep trying!

He's not ready for it. If he looked like he was going to vomit, he was probably gagging and that is a huge indicator that he is not ready for solid foods. Try again next month.

Try mixing the cereal with some sweet potato's, or apple sauce. My son loved it, and he slept better at night.
