the 00 situation has happened twice, (second was not 04)where popular vote elected and electoral overruled. It is an odd glitch that is not a real long term problem, but does show up occasionally.
I'm sorry u ask a good question and got only partisan bull s., in response. Kinda like the failure of the two party system to represent the people, just the highest bidder.
Interested in the discrepancy between the fees to file for the presidential primaries in South Carolina. 2500 for dems and 35000 for republicans. why? not that either is right, but why?

I'm guessing that because YOUR candidate wasn't elected either time that some how the elections weren't fair. Sounds like a really bad case of sour grapes to me.
Perhaps the 00 and 04 Elections were in retaliation for the 92 and 96 elections which using your logic were obviously unfair.

There is no such thing as a perfect system so there is likely to be some limited voter fraud. However, you are mistaken to think that that was the case in '00 or '04. Bush won those fair and square its just some dems can't bring themselves to believe that FACT.

From the source:
BEGIN QUOTE
"When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators."
- P.J. O'Rourke
"Every election is a sort of advance auction sale of stolen goods."
- H.L. Mencken
Putting these two quotations of wisdom together, I submit that "when elections are advance auction sales of stolen goods, the first thing to be stolen is the election."
END QUOTE
When you consider how much wealth, power and prestige are wrapped up in the imperial presidency, how could we possibly expect attempts to NOT be made to steal the election? I believe that the issue is not in securing the elections. It is in making the elections something less worth stealing.

There was nothing particularly unfair about those elections. The real issue is illegal voting which nobody has discussed at all. Asking somebody for a form of ID is "disenfranchising minorities"? Please, If you can't afford an ID you have more important things on your mind than voting anyway. On no, I have to find food to eat today, oh wait, thats just going to have to wait, I need to vote. Yeah right, Voters should have to have at least one form of ID, I mean you need two forms of ID to open an account at a video store, but you don't need to prove who you are to vote? wow.

Well, if by "fair" you mean "a democrat is elected" (since that's what didn't happen in 2000 and 2004), then my suggestion is to stop the democrats from nominating someone dull who fails to inspire the moderates of this country.
That's what happened the last two times.
As long as the Democrats insist on shooting themselves in the foot by nominating unelectable buffoons, then the Republicans could win the White House by nominating a can of Spam.

C'mon, it was completely coincidental that what happened in Florida in 00 happened in Ohio in 04. The odds on it are long, but I'm betting it will happen again in 08. What an amazing statistical anomoly!?!?!?

I think those elections were fair, but if you're worried about anything unseemly happening, go back to handwritten paper ballots, then count the ballots one at a time in front of the TV cameras.

I can understand the argument about 00' but what exactly was wrong with 04'?
Was it that your candidate did not win?

They were already fair, except where Democrats tried to change rules or outright cheat. So I gues don't allow democrats to be poll workers or election officials.
Best thing to fight voter fraud is to require identification and don't use voting methods that are open to interpretation as to what was intended.
