Lillian Grace and call her Lilly Grace or Lily Grace or just put Lilly Grace on the birth certificate?
Is it silly to put something on a birth certificate when you plan to generally call them a shortened version?

I am not sure how popular this is right now, so I hope she doesn't have a ton of them in school with her. My name is Stephanie and I was usually the only one in school, it was awesome.
My husband was joking and said we should call her Lucinda or Lucy for short. Not so sure on that one!
I use to like Lacey but not so much anymore or Ashley but that is too popular now.

Lucy is cute, but is that too "cute" for when she gets older?

Lillian Grace, called "Lilly Grace," is a lovely choice. Both Lilly and Lily are accepted spellings, so I would simply base the short form on whichever you use for the given name - Lilian (actually considered the older form) or Lillian (an obviously-familiar variant). If you go with Lilian, you might also consider Lili Grace as the nickname. It's really just a matter of preference.
And no, it's certainly not "silly" to use a longer formal version on the birth certificate even if you plan on using a shortened form. That's actually quite a mature, well thought out decision, since it gives her the option of being called Lillian, Lilly, Lilly Grace or even Ann or Annie (from the ending of Lillian) ... choices that wouldn't all be available to her with simply "Lilly Grace" as her given name. And options are never a bad thing. I'm certain she'll appreciate the fact that you actually put so much thought into it. And the name itself is lovely. ;)
Hope that helps.

I love Lillian Grace AND Lily Grace. It's not silly to put something Lillian on the birth certificate and call her Lily! Just choose whichever you prefer.

I think now most people associate Lilly (in all the assorted spellings) with the flower, and not as a shortened version of Lillian. So in that regard Lilly is it's "own name" and not a shortened version of anything else. .
Going with a full name allows options later on that you don't have if you go w/the nickname on the birth cert. My brother James was Jamie till 7th grade- came home all in an uproar that Jamie was also a girl's name. From that day forward, we called him Jim (he's now 44). If his birth name was Jamie, well we could have called him Jim of course, but it would not have been an official option.

I think Lillian Grace is beautiful and when she gets older she may prefer to be called by her full name instead of just Lilly. Congrats on the baby

I think both names are cute but put Lillian Grace on the birth certificate just in case she outgrows Lily when she's an adult.

I think Lillian she can use as an adult, a proffesional type, and lily is sweet for when shes under 25 :) so i would put lillian on the birth certificate.
another name you might like is Cassie or Cassia (Short for cassidie) and I think Lucy is cute.

The longer is more formal and gives you something longer to shout when they are in trouble :) Thus Jen Jenny Jennifer like me :) I prefer Lily Grace, over the two ll version. If you are always planning on using both names - I'd go with the shorter as it's easier to say.
Best of luck - hope this helped!

Just name her lily not lillian if you are going to call her lily. I like Lily better than lilly it looks more elegant. Lily Grace would be fine name all in its own :-)
