As naming trends tend to go in cycles -- as with everything else LOL -- it's actually quite likely the names we consider dated, but not yet prime for revival (those from our own or or parents' generations, in other words) will likely be in fashion when our children or grandchildren are of child-bearing age.

Obviously there will also be plenty of timeless classics (never out of style), dated throwbacks (today's Madisons and Jadons) and a few trendy new creations (along the lines of infamous "Nevaeh"), but not generally the "futuristic" sci-fi type names most jokingly suggest. ;)

More than likely, names like Cynthia, Gail, Kathy/Cathy, Eileen, Diane, Richard, Jeffrey, Robert, Donald and Harold will be tomorrow's Emma, Abigail, Kate, Evangeline, Briana, Ethan, Jacob, Rory, Donovan and Henry. ;) It's just the way things go.

it looks like boys are going to get fake girly sounding names and girls will get terribly misspelled mish-mash of fake phony ugly names,at least some of them because of someones misguided notion they are being unique and special!!!! i feel sorry for all these kids!just my opinion!

I guess there will be more hispanic names, like Carmen or Miguel.
And maybe some old-fashioned names will become popular again. Fashions always come back.
