Doing whatever isn't trendy but not suicidal, or considered "in" by conservative types.

Punk can NOT be found on the radio or at Hot Topic.
Punk was a movement in the 70's that started with bands like the Buzzcocks and the Sex Pistols, end ended when the Dead Milkmen split.
True punk only exists on old records. It has nothing to do with kids today, black nail polish, stupid haircuts, or Hello kitty wearing an anarchy t-shirt.

I am 17.

Punk is a form of music or culture that rebels against the established by being messy and loud. This is now a oxymoron as punk can not rebel against the established (in this case traditional punk music) which out contradicting it's self by conforming, so for this reason "punk is dead".

Bands i feel are punk are bands like Sex Pistols, Ramones and The Clash, bands my friends think are punk (please we do not share music tastes, i hate these bands) Sum 41, Blink 182 and Avril Lavine. In my opinion they are just pop-punk which basically means they rebel against parents because they are to stupid to rebel against society.

Punk is being able to do what you want, and when you want to do it. It's about being free and acting in your own way, regardless of what anyone else says. I think the Sex Pistols and The Clash were fine examples of that.

My age? I'm 17, and I've been into Punk for 5 years.

Age: 14.

True punk is defying the social norms and doing as one pleases. It's not about spiked up hair; studs; leather etc. It's freedom of speech; attitute; appearance etc.

As far as music goes, old school punk bands like are Buzzcocks, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols etc. pioneered punk-rock. However, I am very aware that punk nowadays is very rare, and has been incorporated into other genres (grindcore; crust-punk; hardcore). Bands like 30 Seconds to Mars, MCR etc. are NOT punk; just try to "re-do" the look.
"aggressive volume, short, angry vocals and often bitter political or hopeless emotional content."

Music with semi-loud-fast-guitars, minimal amount of power chords, and repatative beats. No more than 3 minutes in length. Lyrics can be political or simply disruptive. I am 26.
