Seriously, the Democratic Party isn't providing any satisfactory leadership on any of the big issues: war, restoring the Constitution, Justice Department. I'm tired of throwing my time, energy and yes, money - behind the Democrats and having them consistently let me down.
I want a third party - but really? the greens, Libertarians?
So - serious discussion only, please. I don't want to hear from the idiot right, because I don't agree with you. Period. Your politics are admirable - you have played a kick-butt game for the last 6 years - but your policies and behavior are repugnant.
Where does a liberal, sensible and aware voter turn?

Your assessment is flawed. No one would argue that the Dems have floundered. However, every attempt they've made to challenge Bush and his dictator-like policies has failed because--just like a band of thieves--the Republicans have backed him through thick and thin. There is no solidarity with Democrats. We need more Russ Feingolds and less spineless wimps.
I'd love to see a third party. But until we get rid of the Electoral College, a third-party candidate can't win a presidential election.

I agree. The congress has been a huge disappointment. They have a lot more power than they are utilizing. I'm an independent and it's been a long time since a presidential election produced a Republican or Democratic candidate I would choose. One of the biggest obstacles to a third party is that many people are afraid of change. They will continue to vote the way they've always voted, regardless of the qualifications or integrity of the candidate.

Only four viable options:
1. Run for office yourself as an independent. Voter dissatisfaction is higher than ever and would work in your favor.
2. Encourage anti-war and Constitutional advocate Ron Paul to become a Democrat as he is obviously uncomfortable with the Republican Party's positions;
3. Support the candidacy of someone who is liberal such as Alan Colmes.
4. Move offshore or to a liberal haven like Canada.

How about a second party, the two we have have merged so close together I can't tell them apart anymore, they are all bought and paid for by special interests and don't even know who we are. I'm sure they are all laughing at those who they are still fooled into believing there is a difference between them.

Well the main thing right now is to stop the hemorrhaging from getting any worse. And you don't do that by splitting the vote and allowing another Republican to get into office.
Change comes incrementally, not exponentially.
The best thing to do is to stop the bleeding right now. Then we can focus on fixing things and moving back in the right direction.

I've accepted that in a republic, no one will ever truly represent me. I've resigned to support the most intellegent and least corrupt candidate. That's my only criteria. So far, Obama looks like my guy.
I actually thought Bill Richardson was clearly the most qualified, but his performance in interviews and debates is ... less than stellar.
If I could choose anyone, I would take Gore.

George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld and all their war-mongering friends deserve an oil-soaked, blood-stained corner of Hell where they can rot eternally along with:
535 members of the most arrogant, contemptible, wicked, incompetent, cowardly, corrupt Republican-led Congress in U.S. history that stood by and watched Bush run rip shod over our Constitution
-AND-
535 members of the most arrogant, contemptible, wicked, incompetent, cowardly, corrupt Democratic-led Congress in U.S. history that promised to end this immoral 'war' if elected, and - to date - has done absolutely nothing to kee that promise.
May God DAMN them ALL!!!
Yes, we need a third and fourth and fifth party to destroy this monopolistic stranglehold the "Republicrats" have on our political system. It is perhaps the most corrupt political system in the free world, and American voters must kill this cancer before it spreads any further. -RKO- 11/06/07

It's tough. No candidate is going to represent you 100%. You have to find one that backs the issues that you care about the most regardless of political affiliation.
