Advertisers instill fear because it works!
We don't want the "heartbreak of psoriasis";
We're afraid that sexy young women won't want us if we're not driving a hot, super-powered sports car;
Are we endangering our family if we're not driving on the most expensive, safest tires?
Advertisers instill fear because it works.
Of course, it's shameful. But I've been in the advertising business for forty years, and I'm convinced these charlatans have no shame. -RKO- 11/06/07

No, but it works, and politicians use it all the time. In Australia our present Prime Minister is a past master at it! Of course, we've only ourselves to blame. After all, many are spooked by fear of Hell, with or without fire and brimstone.
