Oppose!
As a former cop, I've had many dealings with these folks and it wasn't good for anyone involved.
What settled the issue for me was having to cover the multitude of fatal DUI accidents involving intoxicated illegal drivers.
Many drive with complete and deliberate disregard for our laws and customs. There are those who want to drive carefully but lack the training and skill to do so.
There are too many barriers (mostly cultural) on both sides that keep this issue from being rectified to every ones satisfaction.
Being a licensed driver in the United States is a PRIVILEGE given to LEGAL citizens who are willing and able to be LAW ABIDING.
They have to be legal first. Then trained to drive. Guess who will pay for that?
This imposition by the illegals is a concession of the laws that the rest of us follow. Now you want to concede that we should accommodate those who didn't want to follow the laws in coming here? That makes no sense. The illegals should be the ones making the effort to PROVE they are worth licensing. Not just by working either.
More important a question. If you provide licenses to illegals, where do you stop accommodating them? You are opening Pandora's box and will not be able to close it.

Supporting the issuance of a legal privalege to people who clearly have little respect for our laws - except the ones that bendfit them - would only burden our public resources further... i.e., will we then be expected to pay for their driver training and/ or to subsidize insurance/registration fees? States with high populations of illegal aliens spend the majority of their 'special-needs' Fed funding on the education of children of migrant/ illegal alien families; and these communities have over-crowded emergency rooms that drive up health care costs for the entire nation.
So, YES, I oppose driving privileges for illegals. However, I do see the apparent lack of U.S. interest in performing the farm labor some illegals come here to perform as a serious issue... the nation needs to eat and is losing it's self-sufficiency in this area as is.

Oppose it 100%. Most of them won't bother to get licenses even if offered, because they are trying to avoid a paper trail.
I oppose any action that even implies tolerance of illegal aliens. They should not get medical care for free, their children should not attend schools at taxpayer expense, they should not be given tuition preferences in colleges. They should not receive legal representation at taxpayer's expense. They should not get food subsidies or any sort of public assistance. Employers should be fined $100,000 per year per illegal immigrant that they employ, to compensate for the unfunded expenses of having these people in our system.
I don't think that a concerted effort to deport these people is the answer. This idea is impractical due to the scale of the problem and the expense. Simply cut out their support infrastructure, set up a labor climate so draconian to those who provide jobs for these people, that there's no reason for these people to remain in the USA. They will then deport themselves for free.
One exception to that: The next time there is a march for illegal's rights, you cordon off the area of the protest, and set up INS stations on the perimeter and only allow legal residents to leave the area. Then pack the remainder in cattle cars and ship them to a container ship, and sail them to southern mexico and drop them on the beach.
I am the son of an immigrant, and my wife is an immigrant. My grandfather on my father's side married an immigrant. I support immigration of people who come here legally, and do it the right way. These are people who are willing to work for a living, and understand that America is an idea, not a place. These are people who understand that laws are made to be followed, not broken. There is no room here for victims and scofflaws who feel that the government is their parent and that society owes them anything.

I strongly oppose it. They came into this country illegally (they broke the law, hello!) and so many of them are leaching off our welfare systems, taking our jobs, and ruining our country. Ever notice all the Mexicans and Hispanics in gangs? Do you think they are actually here legally? I say immediate deportation for all illegals with any sort of criminal record here in the U.S (perhaps with the possible exception of their obvious offense -- coming and staying here illegally). If you want to come to America legally, learn our language, and help our country -- welcome. If not, get outta here. What our country needs to do is get rid of that ridiculous "anchor baby" law and make English the official language -- those things would be a start. I think a wall along the Mexican border is great too -- we need to do something to keep them from sneaking into our conutry. People criticize that, saying how other countries don't have it and how we don't have it with Canada -- that's because there are no aliens running across those borders. That's my opinion anyways.

They are already driving illegally without insurance. Since deportation isn't going to happen any time soon, you need to come up with a better and more practical solution. I think giving illegals drivers licences is dangerous if they are tied to motor voter states. And, issues of terrorists coming over and getting licences needs to be addressed. Right now, I'm against giving driving privileges to illegals. I think it's a bad idea. But in Los Angeles we have hundreds of thousands of illegal drivers and not enough cops to pull them over without hiring thousands more and creating a virtual police state. And, trust me, the way people drive here, they could use some serious driving lessions. I think this issue of drivers licences is something that needs to be addressed. But I think the overall issue that encompasses this one is that we need to stop letting them into the country first and then handle these second order questions and issues.
Moody Red, it's not just liberal candidates who are for illegals in the first place. Last time I looked Bush wasn't a liberal. And, we all know the GOP loves illegals coming into the country because that drives down wages.

a great style of those sound like Conservative perspectives, like the pro-existence and hid weapons stances. individually, i'm a liberal, and that i do disagree with a number of those. -i individually do no longer think of it is the government's pastime to video show over what women human beings do with their bodies. -I do help the 2nd modification, yet i do no longer think of that weapons like computerized device weapons could be in the palms of non-public electorate. -i do no longer believe the two or 3 strikes regulations. -i think of that nuclear skill may be constructive, yet we would desire to attend to the waste generated fairly than throwing it in a cave. -i think of the endangered species act could be secure, there have been some animals who've been saved by using it, like the bald eagle and California condor. -i think of human beings do play an significant place in international warming, yet I agree we could consistently take care of it. -i individually think of that the government could play a place in wellness care. they do no longer could run it, yet there could be something accomplished to assist in making it much less complicated and extra on your budget. yet there are some issues I believe. Like bringing the age of purchasing for alcohol down (they are the right age to connect the militia, yet no longer the right age to drink?), and the decriminalization of marijuana (even nonetheless i haven't had it till now).

100% opposed!!
As I stated in an earlier post....They are saying "lets give them a drivers license, then at least they will know the rules of the road..."
That is like saying, "well, we can't keep firearms out of the hands of criminals, so lets at least teach them how to shoot accurately"..
That, is the misguided mindset of our politicians.
By the way, register for a DL and you (can)register to vote....see a pattern here?

Completely oppose!! Could I, as an American citizen sneak into Mexico, France, Africa, etc. and expect free health care, government forms in English, free education for my children, citizenship for any kids I give birth to there, and on top of all that, a drivers license? NO!!!! It's absurd.
