I hate Yahoo...dumped my answer, again. My answer is small to none, my bet is none, or 1 at the very most.

I am minded of one of E. E. "Doc" Smiths "Lensman" series, where the US election was critical to the fate of the Universe. A couple of bad guys were talking, and one said not worry, 48% were Party-bound people for them who would not ever vote any other way. His friend blustered, but 48% is a loss, and the first guy said...yes, if it is a fair and just election, but...what about the repeat voters, dead people on the lists, intimidation outside the polling places, all the dirty tricks, and the other guy brightened up a lot!!

We do not have Lensmen yet to keep our elections honest!!

1. The people are untrained in making decisions, other than by what name they see advertised the most, or by what Party they see advertising the most. Name recognition carries the day. That that takes money, much much money! And clever, dishonest, crafty advertising.

2. The election Judges will try hard not to let any "outsiders" in, especially honest ones. They got their jobs by patronage or money, and don't want to make a decision that jeopardizes their cozy arrangements. It was published back last election that the judges changed ballots, threw a number out, various elections were stolen by judges who became richer soon after, and so on.

A clean living honest man hardly has a chance even if he ran up a huge margin, against such judges.

3. Unfair election laws and requirements to be on the ballot as any other then a DemoPublican. Drains the money from smaller political groups! Put forward as supposed to lower election costs by keeping small groups off who would just add to printing costs, etc. Doesn't mention that it is so people will not have a real choice!

4. Media bias, to keep smaller parties and honest men from being seen by the public, and their ideas comfortably suppressed. Especially to keep them out of debates, on the grounds that their positions would "confuse" the public!! A nice backhanded way of saying the public is stupid, but the public lets them get away with it, so maybe they are right!!

5. Our Supreme Court's packing by the party in power in Congress, with judges who go on what other countries think, what gets them the most popularity, what is Politically Correct, and what pressure groups who threaten their prestige will think. Oh, and that old dried up Constitution, forget it!! They know better. Especially NOT to follow the moral or ethical lead of our founding fathers.

6. By the way, how many people even know George Washington made a farewell speech, let alone what is in it? Not taught in schools anymore that i know of. Neither are the words of other great founders of our Nation and great Presidents as judged by History.

Or some of the comments such as, not sure who said it, but back in the 1800's I believe: "America is great because America is good, and when America ceases to be good, she will cease to be great."

Words to die by, I guess.

Our public educational system distributes birth control appliances and information, rather than teaching "old-fashioned morality" and antiquated Patriotism. How to "have fun" and not get caught, tho it does remain in the minds, and seldom do we see the problems such policies of unbridled hedonism cause later on. Funny though, we seem to object if a teacher does something with a student that the students are encouraged and taught how to do and supplied the means to do with others!!

Or do we??

Parents also are not teaching ethical behavior because they were never taught it because it is more and more "Politically Incorrect"

So in this permissive and even pressured to hypocritical atmosphere, do you REALLY think an ethical, honest, Conservative has the chance of an ice cube in the traditional Hell?

7. Then there is the factor that again is taught and encouraged all over. Join a group, since one person can do nothing. Join a big group and talk a lot but don't ever agree to do something, as it might offend someone. Let the government, which is doing such a good job of that, take care of everything. That is what we pay our taxes for.

We should not have to be responsible for anything in this country but having a good time making money by any means.

I doubt it. It would be nice to see LP and CP reps, but they'd be put on irrelevant committees, and not get much done unless about 1/3 of the House falls to them.

None. Districting gaurantees most seats go to one major party or the other, consistently. Even is 'contested' districts, the contest is between those two parties.
