ok well, i am a little underweight, according to my age and height. i am like a stone and a half less than what i should be.
and its not like i dont eat.
i have tried alot of things like, Ensure and Fortisip,vitamins and food with lots of calories. but nothing really works for me.
and a friend of mine told me that if i get on pills it would make me put on weight. so am just wondering if that would be a good idea? and if its not then wat r the negative elements?
i jus want to be on them until i gain weight.
i am 18 by the way

I'm the same way and my Gyno told me that there really isn't a pill that will make you gain weight b/c different women react different to hormones. I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and it made me LOSE weight !!!! (bad idea) so then i went on Loestrin Fe 24 b/c it made my friend gain like 20 pounds and it only made me gain like 1 or 2 pounds barely!!!!

I've been with tons of doctors b/c I'm underweight BUT i eat alot!!! i mean its not like make myself go on a diet, i can eat whatever i want and not gain one single pound.

If you really wanna see if you can gain weight try asking your doctor about going on Periactin. Its an antihistamine that is used to stimulate appetite in underweight people.

I started using it when i was 13 b/c i weighed 60 pounds so they put me on 2 tablets a day (makes you real sleepy for the first week or two) and i gained 30 pounds in 3 months!!!! But thats where i stopped LOL i'm now 18 and weigh 95 pounds. I still take it everyday just to maintain my weight

Are you looking for an excuse to get on the pill so that your parents won't get mad?

Long term use of any hormone (the pill is a hormone) is controversial. Some say it can harm, some say not. The pill increases risk of blood clots, and shouldn't be used if you have a history of blood clots or if you smoke. You shouldn't smoke anyway, so might as well quit if you do no matter what.

Some may say that a side effect of the pill is weight gain, but don't count on it. So, if that really is your reason, it is not a good one.

If you are truly concerned about your weight, speak with your doctor or a nutritionist.

Yes, a common side effect of the contraceptive pill is wheight gain. However , taking the pill can also lead to mood swings and high blood pressure, as a result of the hormones in it. There is also a chance of an increased risk of developing blood clots.
I would not advise you to use contraception pills for weight gain however because there are so many more healthier alternatives. If you tried excercising more you could tone and develop muscle. also make sure that you ae eating the correst number of calories a day.

lucky you for being so slim! :) can i just say everyone is an individual, and every girls body and motaberlism is different.

as for the pill helping you put on weight, well it does with some and not with others, it aint a bad thing to go on them, i wud say go for it, at least if they dont work weight gain wise, u are protected :D :) other than that, why not just instead of having high calorie foods, just increase your calorie intake
through out the day.... for us women its 2000 calories aday, add another 500 on top, for fat its 70grams and 20 grams of saturated, up the fat intake to around 80 grams (good fats, such as healthy oils, margarine, oily fish etc etc,) keep to the recommended 20grams of saturated, and see if that works

it also depends on your height..... tall people naturally need more calories anyway, so if u are tall and going on the guidelines of the average person, which is around 5'5 in height, u will tend to be underweight, for that reason :) hope ive helped xx

some people here say the pill is full of side effects like blood clots high blood pressure, etc, please remember, everything has side effects, some more common than others, so dont worry about it, yes theres been contravercy about the pill for many years but none of which has been proven, that is why governments are still handing it out, with ease :) so dont worry about these effects at all, im sure if u go to your doctor and talk about effects, he will put your mind at ease, as these are very rare

Most of the modern pills have no side effects (not let that scary list of possible side effects on the pack put you off - they are very very rare ). But the extra estrogen makes you put on weight. Mainly on your hips butt and boobs. I got quite curvy (92-73-90cm at 18 yrs)on the pill and was skinny as before that. I am on lolett .But now i have a desk job so fighting to keep the weight off !. Also at 18 you will still be growing your matabalsim will slow down.

taking the pill just to gain weight is a really bad idea...look at the possible side affects from the pill
The side effects that some women have while on the Pill include:

* irregular menstrual bleeding
* nausea, weight gain, headaches, dizziness, and breast tenderness
* mood changes
* blood clots (rare in women under 35 who do not smoke)

yeah a little weight gain but at what price? why not just eat good healthy meals and your body will be at the weight it is supposed to be.

Not the way to go to gain weight. If you are sexually active then that is a good reason to be put on them or for some girls its medical reasons. Some girls don't even gain weight on the pill. Gain muscle weight by working out fat weight will end up hurting you.

not the right reasons at all to go on the pill.
and anyway, i'm on the pill, have been for around a year, and i haven't put on any weight at all lol, if anything i've lost weight

so no, it isn't the right choice for you at all. it would just get you in a right muddle tbh lol. i doubt your doctor would give you the prescription if you told them the real reason why you want it either. just don't do it lol.

maybe you're supposed to be that weight? especially if you've always been that naturally slim. just exercise and eat well & don't stress over it, you're fine as you are xx

just wait, once you turn like, 25, the weight will come and u will wish u were 18 again. but seriously bc pills may or may not make you gain weight. there r so many possible side effects that weight will be the least of your worries. i say as long as u r healthy, don;t trip over your weight.

That is a bad reason to go on the pill. Besides, they don't make you gain weight. They have never made me gain weight. I have lost weight on them.

Taking the pill for any other reason other than hormonal problems or for pregnancy protection is asking for trouble because it will screw up your hormones.

If you want to gain weight, see your doctor about it. He/she can best advise you for a safe way to gain weight. You may also want to see a nutritionist.
