THE BIRTHDAY GIRL

It’s my birthday! Could the day start out any better than to be served breakfast in bed by Charlie, my significant other? So what if it is only day-old donuts from Waldo’s Discount Donuts? It’s the thought that counts!!

“Charlie, “I said, “I’m so glad you remembered I am trying to overcome my addiction to sweets, and brought plain donuts--not sugar donuts.” Charlie replied, “Yes, darling, I do what I can to help. Here, I brought you a little gift--a copy of 'NO SUGAR TODAY! - NO SUGAR TONIGHT!' by Suzanne Winters."

“Uh! Oh! Tastes just like chicken!” I exclaimed. “Could it be that the donuts were fried in recycled grease from Waldo’s Discount Drumsticks? By the way, where's Waldo?”

“No one seems to know,” said Charlie. “Ever since Waldo started traveling the world with his friend, Carmen Sandiego, no one can find either one of them. Oh sure, Waldo is sometimes spotted in a crowd, but that seems to be the extent of it. He needs to come back home and tend to business--or at least change his shirt! Talk about traveling light!!”

“So, Charlie, why don’t we go for a little walk and work off the donuts?” I suggested. “Great idea,” agreed Charlie. “Maybe a little later we could stop by Waldo’s Discount Dogs, and pick up a couple brats for lunch.”

“Are you kidding, Charlie?” I asked. “Spicy meat and I do not get along. If I eat brats, I can guarantee I will be doing the Polish Sausage Polka all the way back to our apartment--and not in a good way!!”

And so, we leave the Birthday Girl and Charlie discussing other lunch options. “Taco Grande, Taco Pizza, Taco Salad, Taco Soup…..”

well, i can try:

Last night was the first annual Polish Festival in our small town. Lots of fun was had, and we even danced the Polish Sausage Polka. But - since it was a week night, and work beckoned early the next morning, by 10 o'clock we left for home.

On the way, we stopped to get some Waldo's Discount donuts, which we planned to have for breakfast in bed tomorrow. Continuing our drive to the homestead, my husband snuck a bite of donut. HOLY TACE GRANDE he shouted, frightening me. What is it, dear, i asked. This donut is bad, he said, tastes just like chicken !!!!!

I was surprised to hear that, and could only guess that the baker had an off night, and used no sugar tonight.

ah well.... better luck next time.
