Wouldn't the world be alot nicer if they did! a name is specially picked for that child and they shouldn't be made fun of for it. parents should simply teach their kids not to tease rather than try to convince people not to name their kid something they like just becaus kids can be rude.

I should hope that most try. After all, it'd be a shame if we were all simply raising a world full of bullies. ;)

However, I seriously doubt that would stop a child with an all-too-unfortunate moniker from being ridiculed at some point. Little Latrine, Kahlua, Prada-Evian, Emhuleiaghe, Jermanydragonfire and Shon'sheNeikwa are, sadly, doomed to at least one negative (honest) comment at some point.

Perhaps it would be better to ask if parents can likewise be taught not to give their children randomly made-up, misspelled or otherwise poorly-thought-out names that rather ensure a certain amount of disrespect throughout their lifetime. Because I assure you ... my children won't be the ones doing the teasing, but it's a sad situation when the parents themselves simply didn't care enough to put some thought into it beforehand. ;)

Well, in a nutshell, no. The reason is, no matter how well you teach your kids to be kind to other, kids will always pick on one another for one reason or another. In a group setting, regardless of the age of the people in it, someone is bound to be singled out. It seems sad, but in a way it is a great learning/growing experience. Everyone is teased, and teaching a child the way to deal with that without letting it effect your self esteem is the best lesson in growing up. You can't shield your kid from mean comments, you just have to teach them to defend themselves.

yes of course. but parents don't do that. they like to insult ppls names too and say things like, "aren't you glad we didn't name you that!!" that's how kids learn negative thoughts about names. Personally, a name is a name to me and I will teach my daughter to respect all people no matter what.
