Im 20weeks today! and ive perm my hair about twice! i dont think it does any harm just try not to breathe it in too much stay in a open area thats aired out! I know plenty of women that permed theirs while pregnant and they all had healthy babies , including my mum and sis! Be safe n congrats mama!
i went n look this up for ya!
Perms and Straighteners -- Like hair coloring, getting your hair permed or straightened also involves chemicals that come into contact with the scalp and can get absorbed into the bloodstream. Most research, albeit limited, does indicate that it is safe to perm your hair while pregnant. As with hair coloring, doctors often suggest waiting until the second or third trimester, when your baby's development is no longer as vulnerable to outside factors.

Hi there, I am a hairdresser & there is nothing wrong with getting ur hair permed or coloured whilst pregnant. Perm lotion is not allowed to touch ur scalp for long as it is a chemical so will not effect ur baby at all. The only thing we say is keep an eye on ur hair condition as it changes whilst pregnant, some women find it can be drier or be the shiniest perm they've had! The best thing to do if u r experiancing dry hair is use lots of conditioner& leave it on 5-10mins. There are no scientifc reasons to not perm ur hair, hair salons try to stay ventilated whilst perming as the smell aint nice anyway. I am 40 weeks&1days pregnant &carried out lots of perms in my 33 weeks of working, try not to let it worry u&hav a nice time pampering urself in the salon!! good luck :-)

the issue of whether it is safe or not is controvesial but i would wait. if you perm you hair now the chemicals will be obsorbed and go to your baby. also i read in the site below that when your pregnant the hormones in you body may make the perm come out wrong. look at the sites good luck.. your better safe than sorry. :)

Well, this is a controversial issue that i was concerned about as well (I am 30wks preg). My researched indicated that the scientific community does not have conclusive evidence that renders the chemicals harmful to the fetus. In other words, they dont know for sure that it does harm, so they urge parents to just stay away from the chemicals to be on the safe side. Through personal experience, I have known several mothers to put chemicals in their hair, and their babies have turned out just fine! So, i guess the judgement call is yours.......

There are no solid facts that say it is unsafe, but there are none to say it is either. Another thing to consider: your hormonal/chemical changes could have an effect on your hair. I once knew someone who had a perm when pregnant and a bunch of her hair fell out. I knew someone else who got her hair dyed red, and the color turned out to be this odd purple color. It's best just to avoid the chemicals. Why not get a cute hair cut instead?

You shouldn't, because of all the chemicals and also what you'll be inhaling while your having the perm is bad for the baby.

I do hair and I am pregnant. It is fine to do things to your hair while pregnant. as long as your not going to huff or drink the chemical you are pretty safe.
