Don Imus and "The Dog" both lost their jobs because of Freedom of speech issues.
The Majority leader of the Senate tried to take Rush Limbaugh's freedom of speech, but failed.
YAF (Young America Foundation, I think) was blamed for offensive literature at Georgetown University and the U. President declared that once those responsible were found, they would be kicked out of the school. Then when it was found out that those responsible were Liberals, all was forgiven.
Y/A violations are often violations of freedom of speech.

The problem with freedom of speach is that it is abused. You have to look at the reason it was designed. Freedom of speach along with freedom of the right to bare arms, and the right to peaceabley gather. The founders of the constitution all had 1 thing in mind when they provided these freedoms. The ability of the people to take back control of the government when the government gets out of control. Freedom of speach was never meant to allow anyone to say anything they want about anything or anyone. It was degisned to be something that is to be used responsibilly. But it's gotten out of control.
and today it has become obscured, and is no longer recognised for it's original purpose. which was to keep the government in check, and to keep it from getting out of control.

In 1977 the American Nazi party wanted to have a parade in Skokie, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago). Skokie was a town that had a tremendous number of Holocaust survivors or relatives of victims.
The Nazis were denied their permit and then the ACLU stepped in. It was a VERY interesting case of Freedom of Speech and I think it would be perfect for your paper.
The following link will get you started but there are volumes of articles. GOOD LUCK on your paper and THANK YOU for your interest in one of our most basic freedoms.

In the US? The most striking examples are say in Cuba or Iran. Bush gave the Medal of Freedom to a Cuban dissident yesterday, who was jailed in a small hovel (and still is) to silence him. It's a horribly sad story.

US examples would be prevelant on College Campuses. For example Columbia that silenced "The Minutemen".

Or Emory silencing David Horowitz, because I assume "they don't like him".:

I would disagree with Jen above. Having a certain area where you are allowed to protest due to security reasons is not an infringement on free speech. These people are not arrested or silenced.

Congress created federal law to give the FCC the ability to regulate TV content, especially during "family" hours. They aren't as active as they used to be. They once reviewed scripts to make sure it was appropriate for the time slot. They made Archie Bunker stop saying the D word, made Jeanie cover her belly button, and made Lucy and Ricky sleep in separate beds.
Obscenity is not legally protected speech. Learn more here-

Every journalist has a list of things they are not allowed to report on.
Sounds like restriction to me.
