I teach my daughter to accept everyone- young or old, regardless of race, nationality, orientation, etc.
I do, however, teach her that she doesn't have to put up with bullies, people who make fun of others and people who try to get her to do stupid things.
I guess THAT is prejudice, too, but I don't care.

Hi,
I don't have children, but if I did, I would'nt teach them
to hate any Ethnic Group. We are all in this World as
One Group of Distinct Humans who are here for a
Purpose, and it's not to be at each others throat with
Hatred and Violence. But we as a People, still have a lot
of Lessons to Learn. I'm glad that you brought up this
Important Question.

I'm about to a parent for the first time so this one really got me thinking. As a child who has been exposed to other people's racist views (not of my family) and felt the sting of racism I will teach my child that people are people. And all people are God's children so there is absolutely no reason to treat anyone differently because their skin is a different colour.

I do not have children, so I will answer as if I were my parents:
"We did not teach Cas anything about other people, only that they should all be treated with respect before judging them. OK -- so maybe I tried to tell her not to date Italians but I really don't think she took me too seriously on that one. It is not healthy to teach children to dislike anyone before getting to know them."

sometimes prejudice is deliberatly taught by parents... most of the time its not what is said, its what is done. kids pick up on subtle cues.
but in this day in age ppl dont teach that kind of thing. ppl are WAY more accepting. parents dont care who there kids are friends with, as long as they arent bad influences on their kids.
i would say of course its not healthy, it teaches ignorace and intolerance. you want to teach your kids to be be accepting and make choices and jugements abt the individuals, not an entire group.

My dad is very prejudice. My brother and I are just the opposite. Very open with everyone. I go out of my way to stress the importance of treating everyone the same with my son. He has friends of all races and I think that is great!

Relegion is an integral part of the "traditional American family". Unfortunately, Prejudice will seep into the fabric of religion in some form.

Not that im racist but when i was 3 i used to be afraid of black people. i would cry when a black person even came near me. my mother didnt know why. it was not taught. if i had kids i would teach them prejudice and avoid groups, but like my mother i would also teach them that those groups are not divided by color.
Are you people racist? And are you saying that you would have absolutly no discrimination at all? You mean to tell me if u saw a group of guys that clearly looked like gangmembers or someone that fit the profile of a petifile you would teach your kid not to discriminate and become friends with them?
The story of when I was 3 is just to show that some discriminations though sometimes "bad" is not taught!

You can teach all you want but when they get older and have a rational mind of their own they teach themselves. Blacks teach their kids the myth of the white racist. They don't go through anything harder than any other race yet they blame whitey at every chance for their laziness. Is that not teaching them hate? You know it is and the white public has to stand up to them and quit giving in to their every demand! GO OUT AND EARN IT!

No, I really haven't met any of my daughter's friends until recently (Halloween trick or treating with 14 8th graders). I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were a good mix of people. So I'd say that we've done a good job of not instilling any sort of racism.
