My son has a really nice new top which is dark red with white sleeves. I have never successfully managed to wash a top like this without the dark colour running into the white, even using a Colour Catcher sheet. Does anyone know how I can do this?

you should always soak items like these in cold water. that seems to set the colours. its worth a try anyhow. then wash on 30 degree cycle or quick wash, and dont spin for too long or drip dry.good luck

Test it first by wetting a white cloth and rubbing it on the colour part. If nothing comes off should be fairly safe. Low temperatures at first with salt in the water then if the colour runs you wont set it in the white part. Red is one of the worst dyes for running. (That information is no help) The main thing for the first few washes is to keep the colour if it does run from setting but after a few washes it should stop running provided you don't go to hot.
Start 15 - 20 degrees and I would suggest never more than 40 at any time

I would hand wash it in cold water if you're not sure. However, my husand has a navy blue top with white sleeves and I just shove that in the washer and it's fine - he's had it for about two years now. I just thought that if tops were made of different colours they were made of a fabric that doesn't run. The dilema I had though is ....... do I put it in with dark stuff or white stuff? After a lot of perusing I put it in with dark stuff and it's fine - hope yours is too.

Set the dye with a good cup full of salt in a warm water. Let it soak for a while and then rinse and see if any colour comes out.

Woolite is supposed to be a good detergent for that.
