Young men become Sir when it's necessary to call them to attention. Usually when I have to use a middle name, or the entire name. Do not make me have to use the Mom Voice, Sir! (together with the Pointing Finger of Doom)

Oh, sorry, you're speaking of the Respectful Sir. I use that when necessary again, when a Young Man has done something worthy of respect. Of course if the Young Man is obviously a Teen then I don't use the Sir, he is called a Young Man.

It shouldn't embarrass anyone to be called Sir or Ma'am or Madame. Those are terms of "respect" and should be treated as such. It's really a shame that our youth-inspired culture has reduced a ;term of such worthiness to shame.

Be worthy of respect. Let me call you Sir or Young Man, Miss or Madame. I will very much appreciate it and so will you.

It depends on how quickly you mature,

I would imagine its 18 officially in the UK although staff in shops and people generally call you Sir if they are that way inclined at virtually any age.

Hope that answers your question, although I shouldn't think you'll be giving 10 points to me.

have a nice day now etc etc

I suppose it depends on the country. 18 in the US. 16 in Europe.

I'm 24 and I still hate being called "Sir."

I'm 25 and I HATE being ma'am-ed! I don't think you should become a mam or a sir until you are into your 40's and even then i probably still won't like it!

i think for guys they go from young man to Sir when they start growing facial hair /look like they are young adults.

I don't like to be called ma'am - even the full version of madam would somehow be better...

After university graduation. Boys are Master's until then. Like Master Thane or Madmoiselle Tibbet.

What ever age you are when your father dies. That was 26 for me. No I don't feel old and I do enjoy calling everyone younger than me, "Young Man" or "Young Lady"

It's not an age issue, it's just a term of respect - I don't see the big deal.
