My husband and I just completed Lamaze/Childbirth class this past weekend. It was at the hospital's health center where I am having the baby. I felt it was very informative and helpful because the instructor walked us through the stages of labor, and how we can deal with each stage. As a first time mom, I really needed to know all of this. It makes me a little less nervous about the whole process since I now have an idea of how the labor is going to play out.

It also taught my husband how to help relax and reassure me during the birth. I was glad for that since I am depending on him to help get me through it! I would recommend taking one! Talk to your doctor or hospital about local classes. Good luck!

I am attending classes soon. I was told by several people that they are great to go to because they explain a lot of stuff to you, especially if you are having complications. When they say they are going to try "this" during labor you know what they are talking about! I have also been told by many people that didn't go that they wished they would have.
I am going to the hospital that I am going to be delivering at. They offer several classes for parents, grandparents and siblings.
The babies father is going to be joining me and hopefully he can make it so he can get those nights off, if he has to miss a couple, my mother is going to go!

My husband and I attended a birthing class at our local hospital. They also offered a breast feeding class, but I didn't go to that (probably should have though!). You can call the maternity ward at your local hospital or ask your OB to give you information on local classes and/or groups. Some of the information is good, other stuff you probably will not remember during your actual labor, but it doesn't hurt to go to the classes! Good luck :)

I was supposed to go to 3, but only went to 1. It was too much for me after working a 10 hour day, and I couldn't sit in the chairs (or on the floor) for two hours due to the severe back pain I had. I did fine during labor. Everyone tells me they forgot everything they learned in their classes as soon as the pain got bad anyways.

Hubby and I attended a birthing class when I was pregnant with our first child. It was actually held through my doctors office at the time.

I attended classes at the birth center. We used the Bradley method.

Yes. Offered through the local health authority, given at a school after hours.

Quite frankly, our public health nurse was useless. She was very biased on things such as pain relief, etc, so gave very little info on things she didn't believe in, even when asked point blank. She told us all to wait at home until it was absolutely necessary to go to hospital during labour...then told us about how she waited too long to go in with her third, and firefighters delivered her baby in her kitchen. It was an odd experience.

We (me and hubby) had scheduled it in January of 99 as my baby was due in February.

But we never made it as 3 days after Christmas...I landed in the hospital and he was born January 5th...

I survived just fine through the birth...but then again...he weighed 4.5 lbs (6 weeks early).

I called a place where I live called child care resource and referral. They set me up with a gal, who came to my home, and helped me with the basics. Making your home baby safe, and such. It was a great experience. (My Son is 10 now).
