It has been documented by biologists that male iguanas can become aggressive towards human females during the iguana's mating season. Women have different pheromones than men, and somehow, male iguanas can detect this. So yes, for up to three months every year, a male iguana can be aggressive towards women. To all of the previous answerers who said no, please do some research before making guesses. I know this sounds crazy, but it's true. Here are some links verifying my answer:

Iguana Attack

Well, despite what people say, the exotics guy at college (I'm an animal care student) said that iguanas (probably the male ones- can't remember) can get aggressive with females who are on their period. He asked us to pipe up if we were on our period because we were planning on holding the iguana. I trust this man, he's worked with exotics in zoos etc, and is really expert when it comes to their nutrition and keeping, so I have no reason to believe he's wrong in this respect. Many iguanas in rescue who are called 'aggressive,' may have lashed out because of this. Many people also don't know what a dangerous animal an iguana can be- razor sharp spines, a sharp mouth and a tail like a whip.
Animals are a lot more sensitive than us, and sometimes you must believe things like this for your own safety.
All it means is you can't hold your iguana for say a few days. It's not the end of the world.

Iguanas are stereotyped to have behavioural problems which they may do, but not through any fault of their own. Male iguanas have been known to attack women on their period but only under unusual circumstances. This is when the male has several female iguanas to breed with but all are too imature, so the heightened sexual desire mixed with frustration drives him mad with lust and the smell of menstrual scent from a woman, can be confused with that of a female. The attack is not too bad although Iguanas mating do fight and the male grips the female with his claws and bites into the neck behind the head.

One other theory behind attacking iguanas is down to feeding the wrong foods. Too many people see iguanas as being a carnivore. They love meaty and insect food but its very bad for them long term and so they should be kept on 100% fruit and veg from the start. Rescued adults are fed on a proper diet but the smell of meat in the kicthen can drive them mad and unusually enough so can menstrul scent. In this case its not the hormones they pick up on, its the blood itself which they crave.

I have an adult male Iguana and have never experienced any issues except he doesn't like my partner and tail whips him when Spike is out and laid on the sofa.

It smells like blood. It doesn't smell like poop or anything that awful. It shouldn't be that strong and disgusting. It just doesn't smell like flowers or anything. If you're thinking of vaginal discharge, that has many different smells that usually isn't good.

absolutely not!!! Iguana's, in their natural habitat do not mate because of the smell of mensus in the opposite sex. They mate because of the seasons, NOT because of smell. You can handle and care for your iguana at anytime and not be worried about it attacking you.
The only time that an iguana will attack is when it feels threatened. NO OTHER REASON!!
Before you decide on a reptile for adoption you really need to do your research. I have 6 green iguanas and love them all but they are alot of work if you want them tame. If it is your first time owning and caring for a reptile you may want to try something a slight more tame and fun to play with. Try a Bearded Dragon. They are very fun, easier to tame, and a joy to have. You can literally put them on your shoulder and walk through wal-mart and they dont move. I have 4 of them and in all honesty they are easier to feed and water and take a quarter of the time to tame.. I spend 4 hours a day with my iguanas working on taming. I spent two weeks with my Beardies and I can literally walk through the mall or wal-mart with no problem.
hope this helps a little.

Iguanas are vegetarians. Blood, let alone menstrual blood will have no affect on them.
Do a bit of research if you are serious about getting one, they are a high maintenance animal, and are not for beginners.
