Oddly, the link between homework and academic success isn't as firm as you might think.

As for laziness, that will vary greatly with area. Where my wife teaches, she gets frustrated because students are often unwilling to try to do a problem, and instead just want to have their hand held while they are walked through it and given the answer. But then some of her students work hard and get As. Cant' really generalize like that.

It depends on how much homework they are given. If it amounts to many hours a night my answer would be no. If it is a more reasonable amount, I would say that the ones who complain are lazy.

Here you are begging the question. But if I assume for a moment that your assertion, that Russia and China's educational system is better than that of the United States, is correct, I guess my answer would be that it is quite ironic indeed!

I've found that the kids WANT to learn but are being blocked at every opportunity by the gov't. and academic staff.
