People who have power controls and dominates all. Plain and simple. This is a man's world. Since this [men ruling] seems quite global, I would suggest it is due to traits that men inherit and women inherit.
Men typically are more sure of themselves. They, in general, are logical thinkers and can focus on a goal. Women tend to have "softer" personalities. They are caring and giving. If you think about what personalities obtain leadership roles, being sure, focus, and logical probably is most common. Biological make up gives men an upper hand on leadership. (Yes, there are biological differences that explain why men and women think differently)
Now I established why men typically dominate the world politically. I'm going to try to fathom WHY these "leaders" are so perverse to place shame/unjust punishment/control over women. Some actions may be due to unjust elitism - just because they have power, doesn't mean they are better. Others actions may be a diversion to real problems. Politicians or rulers historically will blame others to escape persecution.
Overall though, treating women as objects or as sub-human is inhuman. In the right environment - where women have freedom - we can definitely rival the best of the best.

Like everything else in life, it depends upon how and what you are measuring. They patiently go through the problems of menstruation and of birthing children. Men would be thrown for a loop if they were given these problems. Women handle them pretty well.
But then again, I sure don't trust women on a jury when there is a complicated or emotional issue. In that case, they will often find a white man guilty when there is barely enough evidence. The attitude is, "If he didn't do it, he could have." A man can be doomed if he has to settle for an all-woman jury in an emotional issue.

good question... when you figure out the answer, let me know.
First of all, why is this under the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered heading?
seriously, i do not know the reason why men think of women as inferior or why some women think of themselves as inferior to men.
but what i do believe is that women can help themselves feel good about their equality (not sameness, because men and women are different) to men if they change their own attitudes about it. you cannot change what other people think, but you can change yourself and who you associate with. surround yourself with people that you respect and who respect you, and be confident!
i think that the problem some of those churches and places of worship have with women goes back to the ritual laws in the old testament of the bible. just look up leviticus and deuteronomy. it has a ton of stuff about uncleaness! i think that it was their way to explain and balance out the impurities of the phenomenon of the menstrual period and other (to put it bluntly) discharges from men and women. women weren't allowed to become priests. why? priests were not allowed to be unclean in any way, which definitely left women out of the question- women are ritually unclean for a week every month!
soooo... in the modern day people still look to those texts as a way of life and as an exact example of how to run their churches, but they fail to look at the context in which the laws were written. Science, technology, and medicine has come a long way since then, and so has the role of men and women in society. As someone already mentioned, women aren't so concerned with childrearing today, and so they are getting out into society more. Women now have the opportunity to do other things.
Lastly, women (generally speaking) are physically weaker than men. They also tend to be drawn to men who are stronger than they are, for the natural want of protection (for themselves, their children, etc). Unfortunately, women being "physically weaker" and women being "mentally inferior" has come to mean the same thing over time.

I don't know that people consider women inferior anymore. It really boils down to assigned roles and responsibilities. Traditionally, men have ruled the public sphere and women have ruled the private sphere. In the past, this was a real problem as women were not able to support themselves and really were considered property but I really don't think that is the case any longer. Rather, I think it's about tradition and human need to compartmentalize things so that we can understand them. Speaking of western nations only.

I think this thinking has become culturally ingrained in humans because during primal times a woman would have needed a man to protect her and hunt for her while she cared for her children.
However, we some how over look the females contribution during that time. With out the women to give birth, nurse the babies, and care for the children, the men would have died out.

Women are not suppopsed to lead flocks according to the Bible. These churches have the right idea Biblically. That does not mean they cannot speak in front of congregations. It just means they are not to hold the position of Pastor in the church.
1 Timothy 2: 12 states "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."
This is often taken out of context. The Greek word for teach is didasko {did-as'-ko} which means 1) to teach 1a) to hold discourse with others in order to instruct them, deliver didactic discourses 1b) to be a teacher 1c) to discharge the office of a teacher, conduct one's self as a teacher 2) to teach one 2a) to impart instruction 2b) instill doctrine into one 2c) the thing taught or enjoined 2d) to explain or expound a thing 2f) to teach one something. So we see here that a woman is not to instruct, instill doctrine into, explain or expound, or teach a man. This infers to the church setting. That is why it has often been taken out of context. It must be taken in its original context or it loses its meaning, which people tend to do on purpose for the sake of making a point. It does not mean women are not to speak or be heard at all. When have you ever seen a woman "be in silence" anyway?

Women are not abused because they are mistaken for a piece of property, they are abused because of the asshole they chose to make a relationship with.
What church? You can go to the pulpit but you can't be a priest in some religions, ie Catholicism.

Some people consider women as inferior because that's what they were taught to believe; it is also not our or anyone else's place to decide what they should believe and whether it is right or wrong.

I think you have answered your own question. Religion has been used to control people for ages. They teach what they want to get what they want. If your god tells you women are inferior then why not treat them that way.

we are discussing this in sociology class. the truth is there is no good reason. in the most basic form i think men are afraid of women. women can hate harder, love deeper, hold a grudge like no man ever dreamed of, and bare children.lol
A psychologist named Karen Horney called it womb envy. She was a neo freudian. Freud believed that women had penis envy. and Horney decided to go the opposite direction. men have womb envy. she said that women didnt envy what a man had between his legs but women envied his social status. she said that men actually envied women because they could not give birth therefore men had to be better in other domains.
That is not exact phrasing. check her out its very interesting.
