I work with a group that sponsors a holiday toy and clothing drive, the community is very giving, we set up what we call a toy store in a borrowed gymnasium and send out invitations to poor families to come and fill up a big glad bag full of toys and clothes and sports equipment and the like. We usually get a few bikes donated that we offer to these families in a free raffle format. It is very gratifying for me to be involved in such a noble charity.

i dont think so. once a so called "needy stranger" came to me and asked for 50 forints ( thats the hungarian valuta, and u cant really buy anything for 50 forints...) well i took my money out of my pocket, i found 100 forints. i gave it all to her. then the next day when i was walking with my exbf on the street she came to us and said: hello, i already know u( here she pointed at me) could u give me a cigarette and 120 forints?

...what would have she asked for the third day? 1000 forints and my jacket???????? that is why i do not give them anything. if u do it once (at least in my town) then from that time u can expect to be asked for money everyday.

Even though I HATE these holidays, I always donate to "Toys for Tots", and my local food bank, and I buy clothing for the local shelter to give to the needy.
I don't need to share my misery, so I try to share some good.

We donate to a childrens charity every year - they request toys of any kind (new) and gather them all under a big tree in their office, ready to doll out to orphanages on Christmas day for kids without families.

We are donating money to two separate charities in Africa, through two friends of ours who work for them.

None of us are Christians, but both the charities are run by the Anglican church.

Our campus adopts families locally, so does my parish and Jonathan's cluster -- we donate in multiple ways therefore.
