3008...lol...Silly Nurnt...There is no year...Cuz JK Rowling wants the reader to imagine it when they want it to happen....Lots of books don't put dates...And I think that helps the reader make it seem more related to themselves....Like...you can say...Harry is my age...and Spidy...who is younger can say that Harry is his age...and you both get that same feeling...So there...That's the year...Whatever year you want it to be!!! Love ya Nurnt!!!

There is no specific year mentioned in the books, but the first book was released in 1997, so you could assume that he started school in that year.

If you read carefully through "Chamber of Secrets" you'll see that it takes place in 1992; this is Harry's second year, so his first year is 1991.
