I do agree that it seems like it's gotten that way. But it is a great hoilday & is what you make it. We as people don't HAVE to buy into all of the commercial hype. We can (and I for one, do)make the choice to focus on the spirit of the holiday, the traditions,& the simple joys of family time rather than buy into the pressures of gift giving. When I first started :"cutting back" I worried that my family & friends would think I was cheap. But as it turned out, everyone really felt the same way that I did. We didn't WANT eachother going into debt so we could have something new that we'd buy ourselves if we needed it. (and get the right color / size)
Last year for example,my sister & I spent a Saturday painting my mom's kitchen instead of buying her a gift, she was SO happy!
I sit with my kids & make different ornaments every year so that they can give something thoughtful to whoever they want instead of me haveing to spend a fortune. We as a family all buy for the kids, but not eachother (brothers, sister's in law, etc.), Instead we give "white elephant" gifts & play a dice game. We get lots of laughs & spend fun time together. Christmas itself isn't commercial at all. PEOPLE are. Everyone should try this...
HAPPY HOLIDAYS! (fun & cheap)

It has been for a long time. As long as profit is made, there will be commercialism to Christmas. What better way to show someone your love for them? Spend all your money. We try to keep it traditional and hold to family gatherings and the enjoyment of each other, but we can't break the hold. Christmas is the time to get your loved ones the things they want or need. I guess holiday gift giving is so instilled into us that it is impossible to ignore. We are a materialistic society.

I consider individuals can believe loose to have the opinion that they desire. They will have to be equipped to specific there opinion, and people who pay attention (which will have to be plenty of individuals) will have to have an open brain, and possibly difference there opinion. Some evaluations won't develop into some thing, however it doesnt imply there nugatory. Even if no one treasures your opinion, you will have to. Its what makes you who you're.

It's been too commercialized from the start. Folks should decide how much they can afford and give it to their church or a worthwhile charity. There would be a lot less hurt feelings.

Yes it is and it takes away the fun of Christmastime. It's advertised earlier and earlier each year . . . what is there to look forward to anymore. I miss the various smells of Christmas too, now you buy them in candles.

I think it is. It seems they start putting out and advertising for Christmas earlier and earlier every year. It's like they skip over Thanksgiving all together.

Yeah, along with Valentines day & Halloween, it is now all about making money now, and not what it is meant to suppose to be.
