i covered my art book in lots of pictures cut out from magazines. Like celebrities and that sort of thing. My teacher thought it was well good :] lol or you could do animals or something else you like..
lots of pictures of something are good though..it shows you've put time and thought into it.
Good luck!

Cover with craft paper - durable but workable.
Then, start doodling - a continuous line drawing that completely covers the book. You can create a labrynth-like overall pattern fairly easy - use a micron pigma pen, doesn't bleed.
Color in certain areas between the lines to create icons - like a ball, eye, cross, certain letters, whatever.
Another idea: cover the book with labels - canned good labels, bottle labels (soda bottles), address labels, etc. Why? because no one can completely label what art truly is.

I don't think wrapping paper is old because they come out with a new design every 5 minutes. But you can also use scrapbooking paper or handmade paper from a craft store, or fabric from the fabric store or an antique shop.
Or you could build a cover from the packing from your favorite frozen dinner, the paper labels from soup cans - creativity is when you look at things and see art in them

Check out this page at my site on making journal and notebook covers (or just covering existing ones with embellishment, etc.):
http://glassattic.com/polymer/books.htm
(... click on the category called COVERS...Notebook, Journal, Other...)
Btw, you can do just about anything you want with polymer clay and make it look loads of different ways (creativity unlimited), but you can also just use polymer clay (and often other clays as well) to make some of the items/patterns/surfaces to attach to decoupaged or other backgrounds.
Just looking at all the cool things people have done may give you ideas in general too.

Take a photo of your favorite work of art, scan it onto your computer and re-do it using a graphics program - you can make it really funky and have your re-done piece on the front of your book, and the original on the back. Or do different ones to make more of a collage. Stick them on carefully with PVA then cover with sticky-backed-plastic.
Have fun and I hope you are pleased with whatever you end up doing! :o)

find a glossy magazine, then tear out scraps of paper which has the same general colour, ie group reds, pinks, blues oranges yellows purples and greens together,, then make a rainbow pattern by gluing it down onto your book. then you could write your name ontop in big gold letters with a gold pen or something? I did this for art and it looked really good!

A fun thing to do would be to look through magazines like Seventeen and stuff and clip out pictures and phrases you think would look cool. You could also try using photos of friends and family. Also try going on iconator.com and look for avatars you like. I would cut out paper the size of the cover for your book and then paste the collage of the pictures and stuff to it, then laminate the paper so it will stay on after you tape it.

You could have like, a background pattern that you love, maybe paper mache some of it to give it some texture, and put pictures of you and you friends or family on it and draw some fancy frames around them which makes it more personal. Good luck :)

It depends on the amount of effort you are willing to put into it.
Firstly, the best way to hold any decorations onto a book is to get sticky back plastic!!! Clear, obviously!!!
Here are some ideas for what to cover your book in:
- Shells (fairly flat)
- Collage of pics of pens, pencil etc.
- Tiny pics of celebs in different colours to create one big pic of a celeb
- Same as above but pics of different things
- go for environmental theme and stick on all environmental themed things
- go food theme stick pics of food onto your book to write 'ART' and your name!
- Use pics of your favourite things to write your name etc...
I hope I have helped.... gd luck and I hope you get ideas from me!!!!!!! Cheers!!!!!!
