She says that she read this somewhere but I can seem to find anything that can back this up. Can anyone provide a link to some information that either backs up this claim or refutes it? I started leaving out the fabric softener when I do the sheets and towels (yes, I do the laundry) and now the towels are coming out stiff as a board. Is fabric softeer really going to damage my sheets and/or towels?

Fabric softener won't damage your sheets and towels. Who could stand to dry off with a stiff towel? Or sleep on scratchy sheets!

Fabric softener will make your towels less absorbent, though, and since some of that stays on the fabric, it builds up over time. Once in awhile wash them without the fabric softener and use some white vinegar in the rinse. They'll be good as new!

Never heard of softeners damaging towels and sheets. But why would she care anyway. You are going to replace them before they wear out anyway. You might as well be comfortable while they are in use. What the hey!

The softeners can clog up your dryer vent though. So every so often take the vent screen to the sink and brush it with soap and water and a scrub brush. Dryer works better.

Enjoy your soft sheets and towels.

You could tell her that these 2 towels are hers and these two towels are yours and she can wash her own towels without softeners. Yea and when will the divorce be final!

I don't use fabric softener when I wash my sheets and towels and they never come out stiff as a board. I never heard that fabric softener damages these items though. What kind of fabric softener are you using: liquid or sheets? Try the opposite.

First time I hear that fabric softener can damage anything. I use the liquid for clothing and the sheets for towels and linens, just for economic reasons, sheets are cheaper......LOL

By the way, try pouring two teaspoons of fabric softener in your hair conditioner and shake it so it mixes well. The fabric softener helps your hair to stay "static free" and help eliminate frizz.

its not the fabric softener that damages them its the repetitive use of them that does them over.
