Wow did I get some angry responses when I stated in another question that I believe the true reason, which of course could not be stated publicly, that we occupy Iraq is to have a military presence next to Iran... People say that we shouldn't worry that Iran could have a nuke in a few years, that the president isn't a fanatic... Here's FACTS that can't be disputed: Iran has attempted to obtain nuclear technology from many different lands. We gave Iran a nuclear reactor, in fact,my grandfather was one of the scientists who went to Tehran to help the Shah get his reactor going, before the revolution. Iran has at least 3 HIDDEN, UNDERGROUND nuclear facilities with concrete and rocks protecting them from attack. The president has PUBLICLY STATED that he wants to destroy us and Israel. He has given speeches infront of a US flag with SKULLS as the stars and stripes ending in bombs.
If your neighbor was doing this to you, would you call the cops? I think Bush gave us untruthful answers

about Iraq because he couldn't tell us the truth. I think he underestimated the intellegence of the average civilian, which created a lack of trust. Now people accuse anyone of saying Iran is a threat of "fear mongering" Well, should we be concerned? To say I'm lying or trying to scare you is very simple, dismissing an issue that needs discussion.

Dividing into liberals and conservatives is very foolish. We should not ignorantly dismiss eachother's views, but we should as a people decide whether or not this is a threat. I think it is, and I certainly hope my government is doing all it can to squash a threat to us.

With Bush as president, Canada could potentially become a threat.

Yes and no. The Grand Ayatollah wants nuclear energy. President of Iran is from the Revolutionary Guard and hostile. Putin of Russia has his feet in the door (+ Trans Caspian Oil Pipeline interests they also are helping w/nukes). The Saudi's want to help with Uranium ? Some high leaders are being called out on terrorist bombings in other countries? Every day something new. But Pakistan is key. For now, Iran is quiet, one day or two !

Thanks for your info. It's very interesting your family history runs deep! Kool .

Iran possessing a nuclear weapon is truly a concern of the west as well as our interests. Currently, they are not a threat, but we cannot allow them to possess a nuclear weapon. That would completely change the dynamics of the middle east as well as the dynamics of the United States.

Sure, people argue that if we possess a nuclear weapon, then so should any other country that wishes. That is completely false. For one, the US and all other current Nuclear Powers possess nuclear weapons as a deterrent, not as an offensive weapon (which is completely understood by all). When you have extreme islam involved in this thinking, this weapon could very easily be turned offensively in the name of martyrdom. I really have nothing against any religion, but certain regimes would be completely irrational with the possession of nuclear weapons.

A nation that might attack you, and has the capacity to do you at least some harm is a threat. Iran has that capacity (even without nukes, it could disrupt oil supplies by taking conventional military action in the region), and it's been attacking the US since it's inception in 1979.

Iran is not a threat. Iran is an enemy that has been making war - however ineffectually - on us for nearly 30 years.

Iran is a threat only if you believe:

- a lame-duck conservative religious fundamentalist President with an approval rating hovering near 28% (primarily constituted of fundamentalist conservative wingnuts) can influence

- a fairly moderate, educated country with a rich history and culture

- to do something that is obviously against it's better interests.

Yes they are a threat. It doesn't have to be Iran that sends a bomb to the US. They and their terrorist president have ties with many radical Muslims around the world and it only takes on person with a dirty nuke to do this country a lot of hurt.

If Iran is indeed a threat, it is most likely because we played a role in making them one. Just because the 70's are gone does mean they are forgotten. And let's not forget the contra scandal as well. We gave them the weapons, technology, and the anger they now hold against us. If it has that recognizable ring of truth, then it is not propaganda!

The only reason they are a threat is because the US made them a threat...before 1953 Iran could care less about the US. They don't have the technology to do anything to the US though.

Not much of one. I care little about speeches or how they view our flag...all rhetoric, Bush does the same from a different perspective. if you believe the word of our leaders, your in trouble, and I suspect if you believe theirs your in the same boat. they won't attack us, aka suicide. or Israel. But our installing the Shah and overthrowing a popular leader in 1953 was a huge mistake and both countries still labor under that misfortune. We interfere in their lives much more than they have ever effected us

I fully believe you, but as to a threat? He can't reach us from where he is, and would attack Israel first, which would force a response....too bad for Iran!
