My resume is in .jpg format. How do I convert it to either: .doc, .rtf. .html or .txt format. A potential employer only accepts resumes in these formats. I'm only mildly computer literate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That means you took a picture of it or scanned it?

Haven't heard of converting picture to text.

Have you tried to open it? If you can open it and make corrections, then save it as a text document (see bottom of your save as screen).

Otherwise, you have to re-type.

I'm going to start answering by asking a question or two...

How did your resume get into .jpg format? This is not a file type that's usable in MS Word (or most programs that will allow you to type stuff into them). Most of the time, .jpg is reserved for pictures, so it sounds to me as if somehow your resume was typed and printed, and the version you're referring to was scanned as a .jpg.

Is it possible to get to the source file? If someone else made it for you, do they have the capability of emailing it back to you? If you made it on your own computer, I'm guessing it's also there in a different, more usable format. I'd recommend doing a search on your system. From the Start menu, go to Search...In the file name field, type *.doc to find all of your Word documents.

If you don't find it there, your best bet might be to simply retype it in Word. If you already have all of the work done to generate the right wording, etc., it shouldn't take too long to retype.

You cannot covert a .jpg file to a doc file. Are you sure it's a .jpg file, how did that happen?

You have 2 options.

1. Print the .jpg file. Scan it and use the scanner OCR option. This will at least allow you to get at the text. The OCR option on the scanner should automatically put everything in Word, so you can edit it, format it, make it look good etc. and then save it as a .doc file.

2. And this isn't much of a help but you will have to start again in Word and manually type everything.

Hi. jpg is a compressed format. The easiest way may be to scan the image to an application and copy the file to a document. (Cannot be .txt file format.)

Unless you wanna play with OCR technology, you're probably gonna have to start all over or find the original resume, you didn't make it in a jpg format to begin with did you?
