Of course the hatchlings will grow, so if you want a small snake that stays small, you will need to choose one of the smaller breeds. They eat mice, baby mice, some will eat insects.

Hatchling snakes are baby snakes- they will grow bigger.
A corn snake is a good choice for a beginner, but make sure you learn all about them first. They will eat baby mice, which are called pinkies, while they're young and then move on to larger prey. Corn snakes grow to around 5 foot in length and about an inch to two inches wide, which is actually quite small. They'll usually be curled up and only take up a foot of space (as adults in an appropriate vivarium).
A baby corn snake will range in price depending on what type it is and how rare. The normal type of corn snake is quite common and may be as cheap as £5/ $10.
However, you will have to buy a tank. A plastic fish tank with secure lid or similar is good for babies, but they will grow and require a vivarium which costs maybe £80- £100 for a corn. You'll also need a heat mat and food for your baby, both of which can be pricey.
When you shift to a vivarium you'll need special substrate (bedding), a hide, decor, and maybe lighting. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ : )
Save up if you really want one and make sure you know what you're doing.

Hatchlings are anything that has just hatched from an egg.
Since snakes come from eggs, this would apply to any "newborn" snake (as well as any newborn bird, etc.).
I highly recommend that you find a local pet store who can give you advice on what is the right type of snake to take home as your pet. Let them know that you want one that will stay small, and ask them what's the best type of food for them.

Not all snakes are hatched from eggs, some are live born. As to price, it really depends on what type of snake you want. Remember, ALL newborn snakes are small, but many can grow to over 20ft in length. And again, the food items really depends on the type of snake.

Hatchlinga can be any where from 20 to 200 it depends on what typ of snake and WARNING they all grow up to be any where from 2- 10 feet!!!! So if you get 1 now it will still grow up. And they eat crickets or pinky mice, perferably frozen.
